the afternoon the feature of the afternoon was the musical and athletic program which had been prepared the allentown band rendered the mu sic the athletic events consisted of a sack race an egg race and a golf putting contest it was pre ceded by a grand fantastic parade of all who took part in the day's festivities the sack race was won by whitridge 01 the egg race by chamberlain 03 and the golf put ting by mr gummere after the close of the sports a lawn supper was served the evening the evening was taken up by a popular dance which was held in the gymnasium music was fur nished by the allentown band and the floor was crowded those who participated in the fancy dress por tion of the afternoon's entertain ment attended the dance in their costumes making that event the most unique and picturesque of its kind ever seen in the gymnasium a small crowd of lehigll rooters numbering about ■roo : m;v : a with " duty written plain on their faces took the train for easton yesterday . ; three hours later the same crowd came back to bethlehem wild with joy and giving every lehigh yell they could think of in every car on the train for lehigh had gone v 1:o lafayette and conquered a thing that has not happened since tfte glorious days of 1895 yesterday's success was due to the fine work of the whole team for the game was practically error less as far as lehigh was concerned the game started with both teams on their toes playing careful ball in the second inning however the continuous cheering from the lafayette bleachers got sellers nerve and he gave two bases on balls with the bases full after this however his pitching was of the best and both teams played about even until the opening of the seventh inning when lehigh found howard and knocked him com pletely out of the box barton and sellers hit hardest for lehigh while hubley was easily the best for lafayette the cheering was strong throughout the game and in the seventh inning when lehigh scored seven runs on seven hits the crowd fairly went crazy a detailed account of the game follows : first inning — lehigh led at the bat pomeroy got a base on balls but was doubled up on hollings worth's fly to center james went out at first for lafayette brown went out at first currier knocked a swift grounder past third bray flied out and bell went down on a grounder to sellers second inning — lilley got a base on balls and took second on a passed ball barton flied out alder sacrificed and parsons went out at first second half hubley hit a lost a bunch of keys in freshman drawing room finder please hand to walcott or jim hard one past second took second and third oh g passed ball and scored on chalrner's two-bagger bachman went out to james and knight got his base on balls howard hit a grounder to parsons forcing out chalmers at third and brown reached first on an error by alder , currier and bray walked forcing in knight and howard and bell flied out to parsons third inning — bohannan went out at first sellers placed a nice hit over second pomeroy struck three times but knight dropped the ball and was compelled to throw him out at first hollingsworth hit a hard one to short which currier tried for but couldn't get in time and sellers scored james walked but was forced out at second on lilley's grounder for lafayette hubley singled stole second and took third on chalmer's fly bach man flied out to right and hubley scored knight walked and how ard struck out fourth inning — barton led off with a two-base hit to left alder knocked a pop fly to bell and par sons sacrificed bohannon reached first on an error and sellers knocked one to bell which was too hot to hold and barton scored pome o y flied out for lafayette brown went out to alder currier was thrown out at first and bray knocked a foul fly which was gathered in by lilley fifth inning — hollingsworth flied out to brown james reached first on bachman's error lilley was thrown out by currier and barton fouled out retiring the side bell went down at first and hubley knocked a nice two-base hit but tried to make three bases and was cut off by parsons chalmers singled and parsons gathered in bachman's fly sixth inning — alder went out at first parsons flied to chalmers continued on fourth page the brown and white lehigh university the gymkhana south bethlehem pa thursday june 7 1900 vol vii lehigh 9 lafayette 5 calendar a success financially and otherwise sbcond basbbai.iv gimb wqn my timbi/y • hits scoring sejen runs in the ' : ' : seventh inning saturday june^g-tßaseball,'.'■-lies high vs lsfeycttey at lehigh ;
