week-end for individual honors musical clubs at catasauqua h s succ c s s f ul entertainment given to large and ap preciative crowd home concert planned lehigh stars favored lehigh out to win acceptances to speak at the banquet have already been re ceived by h r walters presi dent of the home club and toastmaster at the banquet from bill roper head coach at princeton and lou young head coach at pennsylvania a num ber of others of the most famous coaches in the country have been invited but no answers have been received as yet which is not unusual considering that the letters were sent out but a week ago mr wendell will of course be a principal speaker the subscription to the dinner continued on page three portunity for the men who are leaving in june to become ac quainted with the new coach this promises to be the best senior banquet in the history of lehigh the committee has spared no effort or expense for the attainment of the satisfac tion of those who will attend a clever orchestra has been en gaged to play during the course of the evening and several speeches of excellent quality are assured the tickets will be on sale by today and everyone who hopes to attend should procure his at con on page 4 col 2 the annual banquet of the senior class will be held on ap ril 15 at the hotel bethlehem the hour has been set for six thirty the committee has made every arrangement for the pleasure of those who at tend the guests will be dean mc conn president richards pro fessors carothers brown lew is sinkinson toohey fox drown and reiter and coach bill o'neil the committee is making every effort to have percy wendell lehigh's new football mentor at the banquet this presents a very good op the plans of the lehigh home club to tender a wel come banquet to coach wendell on his arrival in bethlehem are fast nearing completion the banquet will be held on monday march 30 at the ball room of the hotel bethlehem at seven fifteen o'clock in the evening a mistake was made in the pre liminary announcement and on the tickets of stating the time of the affair to be six o'clock special mention of the hour is therefore made this is due to the fact that the trains from philadelphia and new york ar rive after six o'clock mustard and cheese makes final plans s and c holds regular meeting y m c a concert a music lovers delight history club to hear eminent speaker tonight new club to hold first public meeting since its organ ization audience enthralled by su perb music of the harp both cast and chorus mem 1 bers chosen — new coach arrives today new athletic by-law and awarding of l to fresh man managers discussed singing also excellent outside contracts planned hope to ratify by-law the combined musical clubs of lehigh university played their second out of town engage ment at catasauqua pa last wednesday evening the con cert was given under the aus pices of the senior class of the catasauqua high school in the school auditorium * the large crowd that filled the auditorium was evidence of the good reputation of this year's organization the pro gram presented was practically the same as that given at east orange several weeks ago the whole of the entertain ment went off without a mistake with each group meeting a sim ilar amount of success the conclusion of each number was greeted with a hearty round of applause from the audience much to the delight of the en tertainers the hits of the evening were scored by both the male and hawaiian quartets who by their novel rendition of popular se lections immediately won favor with the audience jack black the diminutive tenor succeeded in installing humor into the pro gram by his impersonation of a lady while singing memory lane in high falsetto con on page 4 col 4 with the catasauqua trip ov er report for spring practice on monday call for asst managers the concert held under the di rection of the v at the south side high school wednesday evening was an unparalleled success in the eyes of music lov ers miss frances callow harpist and edgar schofield bass bari tone presented programs of un usual diversity and both were accorded an enthusiastic recep tion seldom does one have the pri vilege of hearing a harpist of miss callow's ability her nim ble fingers made her instrument resound sometimes with the ef fect of a cathedral organ and again with that of a trickling water in the mountain brook mr schofield had both depth and variation of tone often ex tending the voice beyond the us miss callow's interpretation of the song of the volga boat men was particularly splen did the field of american history the distinguished historian has cho sen an appropriate subject which should prove exceedingly interesting as well as instruc tive namely abraham lincoln and some decisive moments in the civil war the club which is an honor ary society was founded dur ing the recent winter months it is named after one of america's foremost figures of the early period of american his rus has finally been selected by coach french and director morris after lengthy try-outs and many practices fourteen men have been chosen to make up the best chorus of any mus tard and cheese show of this number two will be alternates in case any of the others should be unable to perform six men will have girl's parts in the cho rus they are clayton geo robinson white keterer klep and rankin the other men to take the male parts are bartoo morrison purdy brill straub and kesselman under the able direction of jimmy morris these men have learned many intricate and un usual steps which will greatly add to the effectiveness of their parts they will be dressed in the brilliant costumes of swiss peasants while in another scene they will be russian serfs these men should particular ly be commended for the active interest in the progress of the show their part necessitates many hours of hard work which are essential that they may mas ter the difficult dances coach french was well pleas ed with the aptitude with which these men grasped the new steps he demonstrated to them on his recent visit director morris unhesitatingly declares that this year's chorus is the best the mustard and cheese has ever had owing to previous engage ments in new york mr french has been obliged to cancel his contract with the mustard and cheese club tho his loss will be keenly felt the club is indebt ed to him for enabling them to obtain another coach at such short notice mr french prom ised that he would send a man who thoroughly understood this type of dramatics to take his place the new coach will ar rive today and take up the de velopment of the show at once in a thorough manner as yet there have been no con on page 4 col 2 coach baldwin gave his base ball squad a heavy batting prac tice wednesday afternoon on the lower field generally con tact with the ball was in evi dence but the hurlers did not open up with any great deal of smoke of stuff on the ball two teams were lined up with dietrich and prior and wilken son and strong as batteries there seems to be an abundance of material from which to select a combination that will work well together permanently it may be some time before the coach makes a cut in the squad continued on page three the regular monthly meeting of the senior honorary society the sword and crescent which was held at the delta tau delta house on monday evening brought about a general and prolonged discussion of the new athletic by-law the rule was recently added to the athletic satutes by the board of control after a short business session over which acting-president j croll presided the new by law was brought up for consid eration this additional rule simply states that under no cir cumstances may any other ath letic contest be sponsored by any of the lehigh managers when a lehigh-lafayette base ball game is scheduled for that day it does not matter wheth er the baseball game is to be played at easton or bethlehem in the ensuing season two of the annual lehigh-lafayette classical diamond struggles come in the final weeks of may for this reason no lacrosse games will be played at bethle hem during that month the two baseball dates deprived the lacrosse manager from schedul ing a home game on either of those days to many this seems a rank injustice not only to the lacrosse squad but also to the students townspeople and other devotees of lehigh's major spring sport con on page 4 col 5 the members of the sword and crescent plan to do all in their power to secure a change in this seemingly inefficient rul ing however no hope for a ratification of this by-law may be had this year it would be useless as it is already too late in the season to make any im portant or radical changes in any of the schedules another important topic came up for considerable com ment should a freshman man ager receive his letter hitherto no manager ofa frosh team has been awarded with the co veted l regardless of the amount of work which he has accomplished or how successful the huge and spacious audi torium of drown hall will pre sent a colorful scene this eve ning when the faculty dance is staged there this affair which is one of the main social events of the faculty club will far sur pass all other activities given by that organization the commit tee which has been working dili gently to make this affair a suc cess promises that the dance will be the best ever with loads of novelties to keep everybody guessing the dance will be a closed one only members of the faculty and their immediate coach of football at lehigh will take up his duties monday aft ernoon mr wendell has issued his first call for candidates for spring practice the first meet ing of the candidates of the team will be held monday aft ernoon in the field house of tay lor gymnasium mr wendell is a native of boston and comes to lehigh with an enviable record of coaching for the past four years he has been stationed at williams during his stay at that institution williams has conquered wesleyan and am herst its two greatest rivals in every game played mr wen dell is said to have a striking personality and is a coach
