the southern lehigh club the washington association of lehigh alumni finds its natural heir and successor in this new organization which held its first meeting on november 30 1898 and its first annual reunion as recently reported in our columns on january 27 1899 a some what fuller account of the club and of the recent reunion will be of interest not only to the mem bers of the club but to lehigh alumni generally the washington association on account of its limited field of mem bership and for other reasons had ceased to hold any meetings and its existence was in danger of being forgotten realizing that this condition of things was not due to any lack of enthusiastic devotion to the alma mater on the part of lehigh's former students a move ment for reorganization was set on foot under the leadership of messrs james a watson b4 j willoughby anderson 89 and edwin j pundle 7 90 at the november meeting a committee was appointed including the three already named with asa e phillips 90 and edgar p ed monston 98 to make arrange ments for a reunion and reception to president drown in january the reunion as arranged by this committee took the form of a buffet luncheon which was served at the raliegh in a room artis tically draped with lehigh colors and with national and cuban flags to the accompaniment of a fine orchestra there were present about forty graduates and former students and the only subject for regret was that the committee had not been able to secure the attendance of the trustees of the faculty and of other alumni clubs toastmaster opened the proceed ings by calling on mr prindle 7 90 who in the name of the club ex tended its welcome to dr drown in doing so be paid a warm tribute of admiration and gfati tude to the president for his ser vices to the university dwelling with particular emphasis upon his efforts for broadening the technical courses by the addition of culture studies ; upon his organization of the proposed six years course ; and upon his close personal rela tions with the individual students he closed with a promise of hearty support on the part of the alumni dr drown in response thanked the alumni for their cordial wel come and mr prindle for his kind words of approval of the present policy of the university lie gave a brief statement of the financial condition of the univer sity and of the proposed scheme to have the alumni contribute to its endowment lehigh could be continued from second page lehigh-rutgers meet on saturday evening a dual gymnasium meet was held between lehigh and rutgers at new brunswick and resulted in a vic tory for the latter by the score of 29 to 24 the following gives the winners in each event first place counting 5 and second 3 : horizontal bar j j reamer lehigh first ;
