lehigh vs yale at new haven at 8 p m gymnasium exhibition sunday april 16 — a 6.15 p m meeting of christian associ ation in saucon hall amateur theatricals by local talent the annual benefit for the chil dren's home was given in the fountain hill opera house on sat urday evening and proved a great success a large and enthusiastic crowd was in attendance who showed their appreciation of the work of the members of the cast by loud and frequent applause much credit is due to mr j w thurston 96 for the proficient way in which he coachet the cast and managed the performance in addition to taking part in both plays it is noticeable that all the male parts were filled by mustard and cheese men the two pieces were produced wholly by local talent and the long list of patron esses contains the stewardson's lecture in saucon hall on wednesday morn ing president the economic society the economic society will hold its regular meeting on tuesday evening at 7.15 o'clock in saucon hall professor stewart wil speak upon engineering objections to the trans continental canal political economy all those who are deficient in political economy are requested to see me as soon as possible in re gard to their re-examination professor stewart 1901 class meeting there will be an important meeting of the class of 1901 on tuesday morning immediately after professor franklin's lecture president mandolin club lacrosse owing to the late election of the lacrosse manager the schedule for this year has been greatly delayed but the following is made public : this year lehigh will not play the crescent athletic club and although efforts have been made to arrange games with cornell and hobart it was found impossible to get games with these teams the schedule is liable to some changes which alumni at south bethlehem on saturday johns hopkins beat columbia university in la crosse by a score of 9 goals to 1 hopkins played but five of the members of her last year's team in this game namely mclnnes fitzgerald abercrombie maddren and guggenheimer baseball lehigh 8 ursinus 2 the first game played at home this season was the one against ursinus on the athletic field sat urday the weather was rather disagreeable and the attendance was consequently small the game itself was slow and uninteresting the score never being close and neither the fielding nor the batting being especially good the chief features were the home run hit by e grace in the first inning and the brilliant running catch by james of an apparent two-bagger in the fourth lehigh lost a good.many scores by the practicing to a large extent of base running signals to an observer there was no apparent reason for such continued attempts at stealing bases but it is only by such methods that team work can be developed and it made no dif ference to the coach and captain whether the sco~e on saturday was large or small lehigh scored two runs in the first inning pomeroy was given a base on balls and e grace who followed him made a long drive over the right field fence scoring pomeroy and himself carman and j grace went out eeed reached first on an error but was left there when james ihed out to centre field in the third inning three more runs were scored in the following manner white went out on a grounder to second base ; parsons was hit and went to first ; kelly made the second out by a sacrifice to first base pomeroy was again given a base on balls and stole second just as parsons stole third parsons scored on a passed ball and pomeroy got to third on an error by the third baseman e grace drove a single into deep center bringing pomeroy home hs stole second base and came home on a wild throw to third base carman got his base on balls but was put out in an ineffectual attempt to steal second lehigh scored one in the fourth on three singles and two in the seventh on three singles and a long ursinus only runs were made in the fifth after two men were out yeakle made a hit but was caught napping between first and second and was put out by e grace caldwell went out on an easy one to kelly willis got to first base by a bad throw of e grace's to first trook was given a base on balls and mccullough hit to centre james fumbled a ground ball and willis scored trook going to third ilouck singled bringing in mccullough but got no farther than first as krugler was thrown out on an easy one to parsons white went in after this inning and ursinus was unable to hit him safely the only apparent hit made was a hot one to right fiel the annual spring tennis tourna ment at harvard
