a large and enthusiastic crowd was present on lehigh field on saturday to help cheer lehigh to victory but the team refused to be cheered and was defeated by the above score in as poorly played game as a team is capable of the game was lost by several costly and inexcusable errors at critical mo ments and by very loose playing after the sixth inning several runs were lost by the stupid base running on the part of several lehigh players during the first five innings both teams played very well and dick inson played a very good uphill game throughout but reed made an error in the fifth and the team immediately went to piece's lehigh started off with a rush scoring three runs in the first inning on a base on balls two hits and two errors dickinson was unable to hit kelly at all until the sixth but sixteen men coming to bat during the first five innings in the sixth dickinson scored two runs on an error a hit and rothermel's two bagger for le high parsons reached first on a hit to left kelly struck out and hollingsworth reached first on a grounder to short pomeroy struck out and parsons and hollingsworth scored on hits by e grace and carman dickinson made sure of her victory in the seventh by adding three more runs to her score bindenberger reached third on an error by james and scored on colona's hit kerr russel and rothermel each scored on a single and three errors in the eighth bindenberger made dickinson's last run on two hits and a ball by kelly after the sixth inning lehigh was unable to hit colona and failed to score during the re mainder of the game kelly pitched good ball and kept the hits well scattered but the support that was given him was enough to discourage the best of pitchers carman and parsons also played a good game while rothermel played the best game for dickinson both in the field and at the bat mustard and cheese lehigh's dramatic association the mustard and cheese scored an unqualified hit and won additional laurels last saturday night by the presentation of its annual play a three act farce comedy by sidney grundy entitled the gutta percha girl the p 7ay which was a most decided success in every respect was given before a large and fashionable house and received the attention and support which it well merited every detail of the exhibition evinced the careful training and conscientious work which must of necessity have been bestowed upon it everything moved with a smoothness and suppleness which was surprising upon this its twelfth annual per formance the mustard and cheese has been at work for some time under the personal supervision of a professional coach mr r c chamberlain of mr chas cogh lan's company the different costumes all of which were new were designed especially for this performance by miller of phila delphia the music ot the evening was rendered by simms orchestra and was under the direction of mr g h word 99 following is a cast of the characters : mr arthur hummingtop with a mother in law mr r farnham jr ralph omerod a friend of hum mingtop's mr w t white josiah gillibrand hummingtop's brother-in-law mr r kimball dobson a servant mr f a armstrong mrs hummingtop mr t m girdler mrs gillibrand the mother-in-law mr f w roebling jr rosa columbier the gutta percha girl mr w s johns daisy maitland the real niece mr e j peck barbara the maid mr j whitridge the play was an extrememely good one well written and abound ing in amusing situations and complications the story laid in london at the present time hinges on the trouble into which ilum mingtop gets himself as a result of playing haroun al kaschid while impersonating the caliph of bag dad he meets the gutta percha girl who the next day writes to him and then visits him and here begins the fun in his extremity hummingtop introduces her as his expected nic c so that when the real niece and also hummingtop's wife arrive com plications naturally arise which tax his powers of explanatory lying to the utmost closer and closer his mother-in-law weaves the incriminating web about him until she finally proves that the gutta percha girl is hummingtop's daughter just as eosa herself who has married his brother-in-law comes in declares her identity and sets matters straight hummingtop concludes that he will never take the part of the caliph of bagdad again the character of ilurnmingtop as rendered by mr farnham was continued on fourth page political economy notices the regular meeting of the economic society will be held in saucon hall on tuesday evening at 7.15 o'clock professor stewart will
