opening of the game the game started by williams kicking off holderness caught the ball and returned the kick williams then had the ball in their posses si on on their 45 yard line being unable to gain on bucking they were forced to kick lehigh by short gains both through the line and around the ends takes the ball up the field until when on the 25 yard line they are held for three downs and holderness was forced to attempt a drop kick the ball was directly in front of the goal but even then the try was difficult for as the ball was kicked it was touched by a williams player this did not prevent its clearing the goal by at least two feet denman kicks off for williams and denise advances the ball a few yards before being downed holder ness and gerhard make short cams through the center and canfield makes five yards around right end williams holds for three downs and holderness punts it is williams ball on their 20-yard line denman makes three yards through the centre and branch gains his length through right tackle chadwell the star colored end makes a nice twenty-yard run around right end ; c davis follows this up by eight yards through left guard and the ball is on lehigh's 10 yard line heavy line bucking carries the ball down to within two yards of the goal where lehigh gets the ball on a fumble ilolderness punts the ball out of danger and the williams fullback is downed on lehigh's 40 yard line the ball goes to lehigh on downs williams backs being unable to gain either through the line or around the end denise makes a pretty run around the left end for fifteen yards on the quarter back trick canfield is injured and is forced to withdraw 11 james going in at left half the ball now is in the center of the field being unable to gain five yards lehigh kicks wil liams makes a few unsuccessful at tempts to advance the ball but the lehigh line holds firm and denman kicks to lehigh's 30-yard line gerhard makes the prettiest run of the day on a fake paddock 98 and huggins 1900 while the neg ative was supported by starkey 98 and freeman 1900 the affirmative speakers spoke of can ada's resources her national facili ties and of the fact that no nation has ever become great while under the rule of another their op ponents contended that canada being liberally governed and well protected by the mother country was better off in her present con dition the resume of national events was given by schwecke 98 the judges decided in favor of the negative and the house on the merits of the question in favor of the affirmative manager farwell took seventeen players to albany friday the team was accompanied by coach hammond and a dozen students the following alumni attended the lehigh-wiiliams game : mos man 92 holcombe 94 perm'an ex-'94 practice on the field the good results from fall practice of the lacrosse team has prompted this move and it is believed that in this way a better idea of new material may be had than in the short and unsatisfactory practice before the southern trip satur day morning the men were given practice in batting and fielding two teams were picked and played about five innings the follow ing are the new
