agora meeting at the regular meeting of the agora in saucon hall last monday evening a communication from the secretary of the bucknell society was read and discussed it was decided to accept the conditions stated therein whereby the visiting society in the coming debate chooses sides of some question presented by the home society the agora also decided that owing to the fact that the approaching debate with lafayette would prob ably be held here it would be pre ferable in the present case to be the visiting society also according to the conditions of the letter already mentioned the visit ing society is guaranteed payment of all expenses for the trip except such expenses as may be incurred by one judge whom said visiting society shall choose and bring with them one other judge is chosen by the home society and the two judges thus chosen choose a third it is the desire of bucknell to have the debate held on april 1 all these conditions were accepted by the agora subject to such changes as may be desired by the forum and acceptable to the agora after the completion of the more important business on hand the members present took part in an extemporaneous discussion on ques tions of national importance all the men had posted themselves quite thoroughly upon the critical conditions of affairs at present and were able to defend their views of the situation quite efficiently the secretary was instructed to secure a complete list of the members of the society and publish the same in the columns of the brown and white in the near future after some more general discussion the meeting adjourned communications editors brown and white : in an issue of the brown and white a short time ago it was stated that the time of procuring the coach for the lacrosse team had been left with the members of that team and at a meeting held in the gymnasium the latter decided that mr kirk should be procured for the week before easter now in the first place it seems to me that it is not the best policy to leave it with the team to decide when the coach should be employed it is only natural that they should want him as soon and as long as possible and if the condition of the treasury of the athletic association were such as to warrant this it would be no more than proper that their wishes be consulted and if possible granted again in view of the low condition of the treasury of the athletic association the surplus being a fairly large debt will the benefit derived from the coach for the one week preceding the easter vacation be sufficient to compensate for the outlay for not only this week's coaching expenses but for the expenses of the vacation week as well it is perhaps unfair to to neglect or overlook the benefit derived during easter week but when we consider how limited.both in time and numbers are our vaca tions and judging from previous years it is apparent that this bene fit will fall to a very small portion of the men trying for positions on the team since the important games in lacrosse do not come for a month or six weeks after easter it seems that this expense might well be avoided and also the chances of the rough weather in terfering with the work of the coach thus be greatly reduced : . :. .- ■; finance editors brown and white : i would like to call the attention through the columns of your paper to the freshman glee club which was to have been organized last fall and to ask what has be come of it is this movement to 98 class book the committee desires to call the attention of the class to the notices of appointments with the photographer which have been posted in the different buildings every man in the class should give this matter prompt attention whether he intends to take a book or not even if any have recent photographs of themselves they should be present at the hour in dicated for a sitting as there will be a material gain in the appear ance of the book by securing uni formity in-the photographs there is no expense to the individual for the sitting but those who desire copies for themselves may obtain them at 2.50 per dozen and all are urged to take a dozen both on account of the advantageous rate and also because this will re lieve the committee of the necessity of paying for the sitting those desiring a dozen or more copies should be prepared to make a de posit of one-half the amount again the board must emphasize athletic subscrip tions the work of the athletic com mittee in pushing the collection of the money subscribed for the sup port of this spring's teams has met with only partial success and only of the individual subscribers can it be said that the showing made thus far is as good as was expected of the 522 subscribed by the lat ter class 335 has been paid leav ing a balance of 187 due the clubs classes and societies sub scribed in all 202 and of this but 25 has thus far been collected a special effort to collect this money has been put forth by the mem bers of the committee within the past week or ten days and this short notice may explain the delay on the part of the clubs societies etc whose subscriptions were due two weeks ago but there seems no need of further delay and it is reasonable to expect that all the money subscribed will be paid to the collectors at a very early date lehigh university south bethlehem pa thurday march senior class meeting christmas hall at 12.30 the necessity for promptness both in the matter of keeping appoint ments for sittings at flickinger's on broad street bethlehem and in the payment of the advance subscriptions for the book any delay simply means inferior work owing to the consequent rush toward the end of the term as the cost of publication is too high to admit of extra copies being printed the number contracted for will be based on the number of subscriptions received before march 15 as the work cannot be de layed beyond that date it is hoped that all will contribute to the success of the project by their personal efforts the board will be thank ful for any suggestions such as in rereresting questions for the ballots to any appropriate matter add one more to the long list of projects started here at lehigh only to die after the first rush of enthusiasm not that i think a freshman glee club so necessary to the wel fare of the college but i do think that it is a shame we have no college glee club the freshmen were taking a step which would have eventually resulted in the organization of such a club as the upper classes surely would not ailowit to be said that the fresh man class had more spirit and more energy than the remainder of the college combined the minstrels last week showed plainly that there is plenty of good material in college at present and that with proper training we would have a glee club which would reflect credit upon us just what can be done by honest con scientious work has been shown by the success of the mandolin club i believe the mandolin club is now preparing for a series of con certs to be given here and at other places so let the freshmen stir themselves and prepare a glee club of such merit as will permit of its accompanying the mandolin club in these concerts the bene fits will be mutual and in addition ■.&&. dd s f 1901 will have the honor of reviving this branch of the musical organizations at le high i
