a strong attack this year ferriday mason and shriver 96 lee mer riman and roundey 97 are also valuable men and should give some of last year's attack a hard run for their positions besides these the following men are in training f h baldwin dufour evans graff howell loo mis maccalla morgan ran kin and walters 96 curtis dun nells good griswold putnam and slade 97 ; adams daggett gum mere hannum marshall paddock scovil symington and wert 98 ; benedict pettit and williams 99 from such an amount of mate rial the prospects lor an another championship banner seem especi ally bright and if every man goes into strict training and does his best there is no doubt that this season will be a most successful one a new pamphlet another pamphlet has recently been issued by the university it is small comprising only four pages the first page is devoted to a classification of all the courses offered by the university some description being devoted to the special arrangement by which a student may combine culture studies with those which belong to practical life the second page begins with a description of the location of the university making mention also of the architectural beauty of the buildings references are made to the entrance examinations the register and the special pamphlets of the various courses the third page is taken up by a list of the officers of instruction it contains a complete list of all the professors and instructors the last page contains no reading matter but is devoted to a very pretty view of the university library the pamphlet on the course in civil engineering will soon be ready for distribution mustard and cheese an important meeting of the mustard and cheese dramatic asso ciation was held last monday even ing at the sigma phi house there was considerable discussion con cerning the proposed performance in easton and the majority of the members were in favor of the trip the cut for the epitome was dis cussed and e c thurston 96 who has the matter in charge was told to obtain drawings for one as soon as possible in regard to a room in which to keep the prop erties of the club the business manager stated that he had as yet been unable to secure a room but hoped to obtain one in the course of a week a committee of three was appointed to draw up a history of the mustard and cheese from its beginning the committee con sists of e t belden 96 j w thurston 96 and j e wilson 96 owing to the resignation of seabrook 97 from the position of assistant business manager irwin 97 was unanimously elected to the vacant post progress on the play is marked and all the positions have at length been definitely decided on all remain as they were printed in the beown and white last week with the addition of eankin 96 to the part of barnes flunkey to the marchioness in order that the cast may get used to the opera house rehearsals will be held there weekly beginning with next saturday afternoon the club has finally decided to get a professional coach and he will arrive in time to see the rehearsal saturday after noon he will probably be mr james daly of philadelphia the same man that was employed last year the stage manager and president will go clown to new york shortly to definitely decide on the costumes the orchestra is also receiving a great deal of atten tion under the direction of whilclin 96 and will be far superior to those of past years agora there promises to be an un usually interesting debate at the regular meeting of the agora this saturday evening at 7.80 o'clock in christmas hall the subject will be resolved that every man present will be allowed a vote upon the two debaters to be allowed to enter the final contest the silver cups to be given to the men chosen to represent lehigh against lafayette have been evening march 18 merriman 97 read a short but very interest ing paper entitled " the projective generation of conic sections the subject treated on the location and determination of conic sections by means of projective ranges and pencils a pencil is a collection of rays passing through a point projective pencils are pencils which can be placed so that the corres ponding rays will intersect in a straight line a range is a row of points made by intersecting a pencil by a trans versale projective ranges are ranges which can be so placed that the lines through corresponding points will pass through a common point by means of anharmonic ratios we fulfill the conditions necessary to place these ranges and pencils in perspective position the speaker exhibited some carefully executed plates of the conic sections drawn by means of both protective ranges and projec tive pencils under the head of club bu adzs messrs binkley boyt merriman jntoerr and white were elected to membership it was graduated and the vacancies they have left on the various teams of last year's la crosse team we have left but four regular men and three substitutes these men form a good nucleus for this year's team together with the loss of sever al of our best players we are some what at a disadvantage this season in having to go to rittersville for practice owing to the resignation of mac donald from the captaincy we have lost a most energetic leader but his place will be ably filled by bartles who possesses all the qualifications for a good cap tain the greatest weakness at present seems to be centred in goal with the graduating of bastress we lost one of the best goalkeepers of last season if not the best the most promising candidate for this posi tion is pennington 97 but he will have to work hard to fill the place of bastress of the defense we still retain mac donald who will probably be able to play and ens coe both of these men have had considerable experience the former having
