engineering society is looking into the question of res urrecting the lehigh quarterly communications from those who have been familiar with the matter in the past may not be out of place a journal ofthequarterly's char acter should find sufficient support among the students and alumni of the university to easily pay for the expense of publication the need of such a publication is strongly felt though perhaps not apprecia ted and there is probably not a technical college of the size in the country which has not one of a similar character in which mem bers of the faculty alumni and students can publish papers of in terest and value if conducted in a business like manner there is no reason why it should not pay the excellent board of 93 93 were enabled to paj something on the old debt and it was only the inexcusable careless ness of the business management of 92 that swamped the journal an examination of the numbers for that year show that if all bills had been collected the advertising alone would have been sufficient to pay the entire expense of publication as i<?j dusbgqts 31 8 t3i6oft€u to responsible positions with no rec ommendation except their popular ity or by selfish combinations just so long will college organizations be in financial trouble and will be badly run they should be required to keep complete accounts and ren der a report at each meeting of the society if the duties require considerable time they should be remunerated from any profits the rest going to the treasury for a contingent fund the editors could be appointed either by the society or the faculty the chemical society should be represented as well and who knows but that s.uch a plan might result in reviving that long comatose body ? co-operation should be sought with the faculty and the technical processors should be asked to con stitute an advisory board noth ing would tend more to the success of the movement financially such a publication would have nothing in common with the old quarterly except the character of its contributions and i do not see why they should saddle themselves with the debt of several hundred dollars incurred by a different management it only needs a sound backing and energetic start to put the quarterly on a perma nent basis alumnus + gray of harvard had his leg broken in the game with andover yule won first place in both sin gles and doubles in
