vol 11 calendar engineering society the regular meeting of the en gineering society was held monday evening in the physical laboratory there not being a quorum present no action could be taken on any matters requiring a vote so the society proceeded to the discus sion of the papers which had been prepared for the evening beach 95 gave an account ol the " new mechanical fluid " and its uses this so called " fluid " consists of numbers of steel balls of different sizes they are specially adopted for accurately adjusting the bearings of shafts or joints collier 95 announced what matters of interest were going on in the engineering world by the time the papers had been read the necessary quorum was present and the committee on reviving the quarterly made its report it announced that so far as it had been able to ascertain the paper if conducted properly would be a financial success after consider able discussion it was decided that the committee should nominate fifteen men for editors before the next meeting of the society at which time more men will be nom inated by the society and the board of editors elected from the men nominated *». harvard has live student publi cations including two dailies the different staffs contain over sixty men it is probable that a three cornered debate between yale harvard and princeton will occur this winter sixty nine men are working for the freshman crew at harvard andover has decided that all its annual athletic contests shall take place against lawrenceville instead of against exeter as heretofore at princeton two men from each class are stationed daily at the gate of the field to identify all specta tors of the practice at new haven a graduate club has been formed to membership of which the alumni of any american university are eligible during the recent political cam paign 45 students from the univer sity of michigan were on the stump for the various political parties the new dormitory at pennsyl vania will be built on the single house plan and these houses or sections will be named for persons who have contributed 10,000 the trustees of oberlin college have voted to raise 1,000,000 be fore 1900 for the erection of new buildings poor condition while lafayette seemed to be doing better than in the first half the ball being in our territory about all the time harrison kicked oft poorly sig man caught and gained 5 yards but the ball went to lehigh for holding in the line trafton made 5 yards when the ball was returned to lafayetie for holding barclay made 10 yards then 18 ; this was followed by several small gains lehigh's ball for holding trafton lost 9 yards harrison kicked then by small gains through the line barclay scored the third touch down and k eked the goal score : 18-0 harrison kicked off barclay caught and gained 15 yards wal bridge 15 and then barclay went around okeson's end for 40 yards scoring again goal was kicked score 24-0 holderness who was hurt some time before was now compelled to retire and saltzman took his place at quarter back harrison kicked off again and lee caught it the ball now travelled up toward our goal without much apparent op position finally walbridge made 10 yards through left tackle bar clay 12 then walbridge went over the line for the last touchdown from which no goal was kicked score 28-0 harrison kicked lee got it and made 10 yards time was called soon after the teams lined up as follows : lehigh lafayette okeson right end jones budd right tackle lee becerra right guard reinhart baldwin centre jordan capt keys left guard roland houston left tackle boericke lest \ left end reeder holderness . ) „ , , t t . saltzman .. fireproof material will soon be hung about the walls and with them will be placed drawings water colors and photographs calculated to make a pretty and useful scene it is also expected that this department will obtain the large framed picture , of st mark's which at present hangs in the c e drawing room alto gether the situation is encouraging and soon we expect to find the ar chitects occupying one of the most comfortable working rooms about the campus it is a model study for architecture quiet when the architects themselves are quiet cheerfully painted cosey and well lighted architects trip the senior and junior architects made an inspection visit to new york on friday last the obiect of the visit was to see some of the large office buildings both in a finished state and in process of con struction the morning was spent in this manner and the greater part of the afternoon was devoted to the museum of arts in central park particularly to its architec tural department where many interesting models and casts were seen most of the men remained over for the yale game on saturday coming back that night or the next day the ariel quartette in parochial school hall bethlehem this even ing promises to be a rare treat trie examination in sophomore laboratory work begins on monday next it will be oral football the game with lafayette yesterday about 400 football enthusiasts journeyed to easton returning a few hours later poorer but wiser men lafayette administered a crush ing defeat to lehigh in two 35 minute halves to the tune of 28-0 this is our second defeat by lafay ette in several years and its novelty no doubt lends a spice to the game in the eyes of the easton men their players were in the pink of condition having carefully trained and rested for several weeks while our men were in a badly used up state however we were outplayed from start to finish the ball being in their territory only when kicked there for lafayette all the team did well barclay and walbridge par ticularly distinguishing themselves for lehigh trafton and okeson played the best game play began at 3 p m with the ball in lafayette's possession eeinhart kicked and fitzgerald caught it gaining 20 yards thu.rs ton lost 2 yards then fitzgerald kicked after some fumbling eeinhart got tlie ball but it soon went to lehigh ■fitzgerald kick ed the ball over the fence into the crowd lafayette securing it short gains by barclay walbridge and sigman followed but lehigh got the ball on downs on a poor pass to fitzgerald the ball rolled past him over the line and reeder fell on it making a touchdown bar clay kicked the goal score : 5-0 time 7 minutes fitzgerald kicked off barclay caught and gained 10 yards sig man kicked but fitzgerald failed to gain small gains on each side were made then lehigh got 10 yards for off-side play but the ball went to lafayette on a kick jones made 5 yards around the end and then they got 10 yards for off-side play .. ball was lehigh's on downs and was kicked after several small gains reinhart bucked the centre for 15 yards then barclay made 20 more but was downed by trafton they were given 10 yards for slugging but the ball soon was lehigh's on downs the ball was now kicked up and down the field until barclay made a run of 12 yards but was stopped by fitzgerald lehigh's ball on downs trafton made 20 yards around the end but the ball went to lafayette on downs here barclay made a beautiful run of 40 yards around left end scoring the second touch down barclay kicked the goal score 12-0 time 19 minutes fitzgerald kicked off but was soon after hurt harrison taking his place barclay made 15 yards around best's end time was then called just after lehigh was given the ball for holding in the second half barber took best's place lehigv showed its lehigh university south bethlehem pa november 15 1894 no 19 the brown and white
