the colleges of eastern pennsyl vania into the union several changes in the constitution were made chiefly the provision of a time limit of fifteen minutes to orations after deciding to hold the next contest at franklin and marshall college lancaster the meeting adjourned absence of any mention seems to indicate that the university does not intend to give the degree ph d in the future yet in the list of graduates seeking degrees there is one who is working to secure the doctor's degree that honor has been granted here but once for the degree of m s the register re quires one years residence at the university and says nothing of the former privilege of doing the same work in two year's time elsewhere the name of the athenaeum has gone to the same oblivion which the society itself long since sought and the newly organized chapter of the brotherhood of st andrew must wait another year for public recognition the number of participants and the dues will allow it prizes are given each time to the first and second hounds in and in case the hares are caught to the third also lehigh's brush club seems to have more advantages than any among the large colleges sit uated on the edge of the town the hares can strike into the coun try without running through the streets the country is better adapted — woody hilly and irregu lar roads with a great number of mountain paths the advantage in counting it for gym work in the two lower classes is worth noticing football is over and the members of the fraternity class and club football teams especially should join a pleasant run once or twice a week is just about enough to allow a hard student to keep in good physical condition .».. __ — . williams has been elected cap tain of next year's pennsylvania team brewer of harvard's and boericke of lafayette's pennsylvania orator ical union the third annual convention of the state inter-collegiate oratorical union was held in the bingham house philadelphia on saturday representatives were present from lafayette swarthmore franklin and marshall muhlenberg haver ford and lehigh the meeting was opened at 12 o'clock by presi dent emley and after the reports of the secretary and treasurer for the past year had been read a re cess was taken from 1 to 2 p m after resumption of business the election of officers was in order this resulted as follows president r e laramy of lehigh ;
