the costumes arrangement of scenery and stage effects general ly reflected great credit upon those who had them in charge and the music deserves honorable mention the performance was over at about 11 o'clock and as usual on these occasions,the club and a goodly part of the audience adjourned to charlie's where the customary jollification was held the caste was as follows : ali baba mr okeson amureth selim mr colemam cassim baba mr keinecke abdallah mr murray ilassarech ~] f mr budd assib i abdallah's i ...... mr belden orcobrand f lieutenants mr harvey ganira j [ . . . . mr ferriday fatima baba mr bartholomew selima mr siegel morgiana mr wbitmoyer the fairy anachronisma mr hillman chorus messrs arbenz h b ayers p 11 baldwin bastress brown callaghan carpenter dag gett fitzgerald hershey howell 11 a jones kip knight mcdonald megraw newbaker paddock palmer j phillips jr riter robin son shepp smoot stockett trafton waring dancers messrs marshall adams i'.annon dabbll meixell scott stack and wallace a lecture on dv maurier's novel " trilby was delivered at brown recently it is said that the young ladies of vassar are debating the question " kesolved that higher education unfits men for matrimony baseball lehigh 4 u of p 23 on saturday afternoon in the presence of a large crowd lehigh suffered defeat by the above score the team as a whole fielded loosely and batted and ran bases with poor judgment a combination which is not usually productive of victory whitmoyer at short was hardly a success although being a new man at the position his work was in a degree excusable his place however would seem to be in the outfield nevins was not at his best being ineffective and wild sending five men to first on balls during the five innings that he pitched bowie who succedeel him was also wild but both would have done better had their fielding sup port not been so wretched both teams batted well but le high's hits were scattered and usually unproductive owing to stupid base running pennsylvania played a strong steady game throughout making but few errors and showing good team work the game opened at 3 p m with lehigh at the bat the first two hitters were retired on flies to the outfield bowie the next man up after having two strikes called knocked out a home run to leftfield giving the crowd an opportunity to yell senior went out on a fly to short in her half pennsylvania scored eight runs on a combination of bases on balls six hits and errors avil was hurt in this inning and hollister took his place at short gorman going to centrefield in the second inning goss went out on a fly to short whitmoyer and thompson the next two bat ters were easily retired at first on infield hits for pennsylvania grey reached first on an error by whitmoyer but was caught trying to steal second blakely who was sent to first on balls stole second went to third on eeunig's hit and scored on schoenhut's fly to bowie johnson opened the next inning with a liner to rightfield which was fumbled and he reached third on a poor throw to catch him nevins and gannon however both were out on flies and petrikin on an infield hit pennsylvania again tallied one making the score 10 to 1 in her favor bowie the first man at the bat in the fourth inning was retired on a fly to gorman senior and goss were easily disposed of in a similar manner the former going out on a fly to contrell and the latter on one to centrefleld pennsylvania now piled up six more runs on a base on balls four hits and two errors johnson here made a fine catch of gorman's foul fly past first whftmoyer started the fifth with a hit to left but was put out try ing to steal second thompson singled to centre and stole second johnson struck out and taj lor who had replaced bowie in centeriield the latter going in to pitch was retired at first for the first time pennsylvania drew a blank reun ig made a hit and stole second and third schoenhut batted a fly to right which was taken in by petri kin,and goss caught blair's pop-up hollister took first on balls and stole second the best gorman could do however was to strike out leaving two men on bases gannon hit to short and was neatly fielded out at first petri kin made a hit and attempted to steal second but was put out ; also a serpentine dance by marshall marshall and scott appeared again in the fourth act in a very pretty skirt dance the guitar and mandolin duet by miller and jessup of the banjo club was artistically clear and even and earned a hearty encore of the play itself the best part was undoubtedly the closing choruses of the first and fourth acts the actors showed the long and careful practice they have been through and with the exception of the usual general amateur weak ness impersonated their characters well anachronisma's acting was rather of the formal type but his voice was sweet and clear air baba looked and acted well his part selim spoke his lines in a very laughable fashion and acted his part well ;
