summer staff all students who have regis tered for summer brown and white are to report to the newspaper office thursday may 25 at 4 p.m in drown hall pop concert will begin at 8 p.m on the top floor of grace hall it will include the various cam pus musical organizations and the finalists in the annual inter-liv ing group singing contest varied semi-classical and popular music will be presented with novelty numbers and campus songs the concert will be followed by dancing from 10:30 to midnight with music by the collegians ad mission for the evening is free and a local caterer will supply re freshments including barbeques hot dogs cokes milk etc at reg ular prices we are attempting to offer music that will appeal to the ma jority of the lehigh family and in an atmosphere that will make less demands on attentiveness and allow more room for relaxation and conversation said e ward cheney student director of the university band the program will include the following numbers by the band strike up the band irish tune from county derry russian sailor's dance selections from the student prince child prod igy with rudy schubert as piano soloist old refrain march and scherzo from the love of three oranges and the sweet birdie polka a novelty number with lewis k hosfeld playing piccolo solo cliff clef numbers will in clude oklahoma moonglow animals a'comin and let's go down in jordan the hungry five lehigh's facsimile of a ger memorial services to honor 227 lu world war ii dead sponsored by scabbard and blade national honorary advanced military society the service will open with greetings extended by annual memorial observances in honor of the 227 men who have given their jives in the service of their country in world war 11 will be held sunday may 28 at 11 p.m in packer memorial church the lehigh university chapter of alpha tau omega as faculty ad visor john mac gre^or worthy grand chief of the national fraternity spoke on the subject of smulps contributions to the fraternity prof neville head of the dept of chem and chem engineering spoke about prof smull's con tributions to lehigh university the rev moore of the nativity church spoke of prof smull's con tributions to the church thomas w norton president of the local chapter presented a plaque on behalf of the undergrad uates the plaque was inscribed with the words judson g smull for service to alpha tau omega a second presentation was made by harold welch providence chief of providence 14 which honored prof smull for outstanding ser vice to the national fraternity john mac lean was toastmaster smull was graduated from le high university in 190s and re ceived his master of science de gree here in 1921 while an under graduate he served as business manager of the brown and white he was president of alpha tau omega before joining the lehigh faculty he was chief chemist for bach festival set for repeat on may 26 27 for the first time in its history the bach choir of beth lehem will present its annual bach festival a second time next fri day and saturday the first per formance under the direction of dr ifor jones took place last fri day and saturday at packer chapel a special feature of the 43rd annual festival was the musical offering performed saturday morning by approximately 40 members of the philadelphia or chestra who accompanied the choir for the entire festival the offering will not be included in the second performance next weekend films of the bach choir in ac tion are being taken by the u.s state department yesterday to day and tomorrow the trombone choir composed of members of the liberty high school band and or chestra presented chorales from the belfry of the chapel before each session of the program guest soloists were bet tina bjorksten and ruth diehl sopranos lilian knowles contral to joseph laderoute tenor and mack hai'ris bass e power biggs was festival organist continued on page 2 col 3 parts i ii and 111 of the christmas oratorio opened the festival friday at four p.m the choir presented the magnificat and part iv v and vi of the or atorio friday evening at 8:30 the mass in b minor concluded howard r reiter head department of physical education lehigh university continued on page 2 col 4 bosey reiter has meant much to lehigh and to its students and alumni the tangible results of his efforts are well known the in tangible and more lasting achieve ments of the man are known to course requirements there are no text books on sportsmanship man liness courage loyalty to learn these things most of us turned to bo~ey reiter because we knew he had spent his life practicing them junior council any sophomores wishing to hold a seat in next year's junior council should leave their names at the arcadia office sometime before friday may 26th also included should be a reason for desiring a position final b&w issue will be may 26 the next issue on may 26 of the brown and white will be the last issue for this semester all students and members of the faculty desiring to get notices or classified ads into the paper are urged to do so by 7 p.m wednes day may 24 the brown and white will resume publication possibly by june 18 and continue through the summer session of our father's eternal father strong to save and the univer sity hymn o god our help in ages past greater love hath no man than this that a man lay down his life for friends st john 15:13 will be the theme of the memorial address by chaplain bean the responsive reading will be based on the same theme invitations have gone out to the student body the faculty and bethlehem alumni based on the conviction as expressed in brown and white last year that the least we who are alive owe to the le high men who died in two world wars is to honor their memory for one hour president whitaker and the mem orial address will be given by the rev george bean the entire membership of scab bard and blade will take part in the observance marching with the choir in the processional and re cessional providing a special color guard and serving as ushers a period of silent prayer and the sounding of taps will conclude the service special music for the occasion will be presented by the univer sity chapel choir under the di rection of george gransz choir director and organist the anthem will be jesus joy of man's de siring by johann sebastian bach - living group choruses will provide treat ments of lehigh songs as well as popular music and the awards for the contest will be presented at the concert the remainder of the evening will be spent true lehigh spirit the nomination wa immediate unanimous wholly heartwarming three times all-amercian at princeton while playing on three national championship football teams there bosey went on to coach connie mack's philadelphia athletics football to the league champion ship in 1902 after a victorious coaching stint at wesleyan college bosey came to lehigh as head football mentor eugene grace a former teammate of his at penning ton prep was instrumental in luring bosey to south mountain acreage bosey is man of half century athletic director at lu 31 yrs two years later in 1912 bosey became athletic director he promptly brought tom keady of dartmouth here to assume the football chores the move payed off as the big brown went on to cut down lafayette's maroon seven times out of the next nine games played between the rival schools it was bosey also who brought lu's only all-american pat paz zetti it was he who brought billy sheridan who has made lehigh the most famous wrestling power in the east it was of bosey that charles l taylor said when he gave taylor field and taylor gym to lehigh i am giving this as much to bosey reiter as i am to lehigh connie mack said of bosey any eleven looking for substan tial results will make no mistake in securing the services of bosey reiter as coach i'll be glad to see personally any one who may think of engaging him the letter has a 1902 dateline billy sheridan who has achieved more than a slight meas ure of success himself humbly at tributes it all to bosey no man ever had a greater in fluence on my life than bosey sheridan said i'm forever grate ful for the chance of knowing him in his 31 years at lehigh until his retirement in 1941 bosey gain ed a type of affection and respect rarely achieved a prominent lehigh alum nus empitomized the feelings of bosey's many many friends when he payed him the following tribute there are things to be learned at college other than ato honors smull for work as faculty advisor to fraternity national and district officials of alpha tau omega social fraternity joined lehigh university's undergraduates and alumni at a banquet in honor of judson g smull associate professor of chemistry of lehigh university the banquet held at the hotel traylor on may 20 marked the completion of 30 years of r ervice by professor smull to a number of industries those who assisted in the ar
