from the last houseparty would preclude a repetition of the loss cited by goldmann the treasurer said he believed that one of the factors in this year's loss was the need to correctly assess student coordination he also cited the absence of a houseparty queen as one factor which may have contributed to the failure of some living groups to demonstrate much interest in the friday concert and dance 5 in crease over last year's assessment in the past few years senior dues have varied between 15 and 20 a student group is attempting to evaluate the major elective courses offered at lehigh the group known as the student evaluation committee has dis tributed questionnaires to selected students presently enrolled in the various courses the committee will compile the information received and publish a supplement to the university catalog before pre-reg istration next year v rodger digilio a member of the committee said the supple ment is intended primarily to provide students with pertinent facts concerning the work load and relative worth of the electives available he emphasized that the supplement is not a criticism or evaluation of instructors and does not at all interfere with their academic freedom john r chamberlin also a committee member said that similar evaluations have been made at harvard the university of north caro lina and the university of california at berkeley attempts at course evaluations have been made at lehigh in past years he said chamberlin said six to 10 students have been contacted to provide information for the evaluation of each of 70 to 75 courses the selec tion of the students was arranged to give good representation among the classes and colleges but otherwise it was arbitrary he said the idea for an evaluation was first brought up over a month ago at a meeting of omicron delta kappa the senior leadership honorary included in the questionnaire distributed by the committee are questions covering whether or not the course description in the catalog is accurate whether there are tacit prerequisites for the course which are not mentioned in the catalog collateral reading in the course the number and type of tests given
