trict of the national association of college and university residence halls nacurh and recently returned from the national organi zation's conference at pullman wash one observation that i have made during my travels to other campuses as naacurh president is not one which fills me with much pride the statement read after making the charge lang elaborated : it seems that lehigh students have very little regard for the physical facilities of our residence halls the difference in treatment is so vastly out 866-0331 rageous that you are immediately shocked and shamed when a member of another campus visits lehigh ..." lang said he felt that rhc could make a valuable contribution to the university if the council could do something in this field this he said is an area in which only the students can help alleviate the problem although lang has never been an rhc officer he has been active in committe work for the council and helped update the group's new constitution which was approved lang's report contained other proposals for student action at the conference he said dr robert gordon dean of men at stanford university urged that students be given a voice in matters concern ing the academic policies of their college or university 29 on faculty get promoted at lehigh lang said this would mean that students should have a voice and a vote on the educational policy committee he suggested that the rhc representative to arcadia robert s young 66 introduce this pro ject to arcadia young told the brown and white wednesday that he expected to act on the proposal lang's report also included pro posals that rhc — join the nacurh honorary program to provide a means for honoring those students who con tribute significantly to the resi dence hall programs — consider qualifying for an esso research project grant of up to 75,000 by submitting a pro posal to undertake a three to four year study to determine the most educationally beneficial designs for professors are edna s deangeli classical languages samuel i gulden mathematics and charles j versacci education these promotions are effective september 1 other promotions include edmund a watters 111 from assistant to the director of admission to assistant director of admission r peter shurtleff assistant director of residence halls to assistant dean of students and assistant director of residence halls and dr ladd e hoover assistant director of the student health service to associate director of the student health service wih the rank of associate profes sor these appointments are effective july 1 arcadia to publish booklet of quizzes see new page 4 is approved — members and pledges of a social fraternity living in the resi dence halls will be considered members of the residence halls student body however pledges will be ineligible for rhc office — the social chairman repre sentative to arcadia and conces sions manager will be added to rhc as voting members — the system of electing rhc officers will be changed from majority vote to the hare system — a petition may be presented to rhc when signed by 25 mem bers of the residence halls student body previously a majority of any house executive committee or a majority of the members of any see tank page 4 wednesday night's meeting arcadia treasurer stewart early 66 reported that the aca demic policy committee will pub lish in the fall a booklet of repre sentative quizzes and final exam inations used in freshman and sophomore courses during previ arcadia has announced plans to publish a booklet containing sample quizzes and examinations the student government also has approved a motion urging that tank traps be removed from campus roads and replaced by less damaging single bumps both developments occurred at the constitution must be approved by three-quarters of the residence halls student body to become offi cial tiefenbrunn said the old con stitution was not workable build ings were mentioned that no longer exist committees were mentioned that are no longer be ing used certain things were being ignored we can operate more legally now the old constitution adopted in 1959 had been prompted by fresh man complaints over payment of excessive rhc dues it gave individual houses greater govern ing responsibility the new constitution follows the general outline of the old one however if the new constitution by louis neureuter a new residence halls student body constitution and by-laws were adopted unanimously at the rhc meeting tuesday james a tiefenbrunn new rhc president said that residence halls students aviil be asked to ap prove the new constitution in liv ing group meetings next week 2-day session onautomatiom closes tonight a panel discussion the role of government in meeting the challenge of automation at 7:15 this evening in the osbourne room of the university center will bring the arcadia conference on the revolution in automation to a close ralph widner executive assist ant tv sen joseph s clark and the senate sub-committee on employment and manpower will speak on the role of the federal government in this area carl mugnani assistant execu tive
