theta delta chi parking lot j andrew miller jeffrey c zwerling frank l bub r bruce shearer and richard b brugam all freshmen and gryphon alfred r alexander 67 knocked down the cross and put out the flames shearer said he heard the high pitched scream of a girl which prompted him to look out the window and notice the burning cross he and the other freshmen students attacked in town a parking space on new street an off-duty policeman broke up the incident when the four later found themselves cornered in the vicinity of new and third streets caprio wrestled for the lehigh varsity squad last semester and gladish is a former eastern wres ling champion in the other incident freshmen letter to johnson sent on viet nam five lehigh students and an alumnus were involved in two separate incidents with area youths friday night joseph r caprio 67 george c textor jr 67 paul jorczak 65 and february graduate john s gladish found themselves in volved in an altercation following ui argument with two youths over dorm complex receives name mark kishel and larry greenfield were walking toward town at 9 : 39 p.m on a path between the alumni memorial building and packard lab an unidentified youth ap proached kishel and swung at him missing when kishel ducked kishel said five other youths ac companied his assailant kishel and greenfield then ran from the youths caprio said the two with whom his party had argued returned with 20 supporters who pursued gladish sprinting e;,st on third street gladish out-distanced all but two of his assailants encountering his first pursuer gladish attempted unsuccessfully to send medical aid to communist soldiers in viet nam will take part in a debate here april 20 russell d stetler jr founder of the may 2nd committee an organization which has vigorously opposed 11 s involvement in viet nam will debate v roger digilio 65 on the u.s role in southeast asia the debate sponsored by pi sigma alpha the political science honorary will be held at 8:15 p.m in room 303 university center stetler who has delivered talks on viet nam at several colleges has faced continued harassment as a result of his opposition to the war in viet nam this has included hearings before the philadelphia school board concerning his city-granted scholarship visits from the federal bureau of investigation and seizure of personal letters several hours before a meeting thursday night sponsored by the campus chapter of the congress of racial equality at perm state uni versity's ogontz campus a physics professor who came to the u.s from yugoslavia in 1950 resigned in protest of a communist propa ganda film on vietnam which followed stetler's one hour lecture vujacic who lived under communism for six years told the phila delphia inquirer i cannot in good conscience continue to be an edu cator in this place being an educator there i bear responsibility also for introducing communist propaganda on the campus coleman herpel director of the ogontz campus said vujacic spent some six years under the communist thumb in europe and he feels very deeply about this he regards it as a symbol of all he hates and detests support u s involvement in north-south politics is illegal un der the provisions of the geneva conference of 1954 see 47 lehigh page 6 a letter protesting u n it c d states actions in southeast asia has been sent to president john son by 47 lehigh lafayette and muhlenberg faculty members thirty-seven of the signers teach at lehigh the letter which accuses amer ican intervention of being illegal immoral and unhumane and in forms the president that the s'gn ers fear u s involvement may cause a major conflagration on the continent of asia and lead to nuclear war the letter urges the president to bring an end to the investment of american men and money in the war in south viet nam seek a negotiated settlement of every possible means in order t create an independent neutralized government and to bring about the withdrawal of united slates troops lay the problem immediately before an international body and put an end to our unilateral and illegal actions take immediate action to end the war in south viet nam the longer we persist in our present policy the fewer will be the alter natives open to us the letter declares that be cause the government of south viet nam does not enjoy popular brown and white vol the university's board of trustees the new residence halls one cf the projects supported by the 522,090,000 centennial develop ment campaign will have six completely self-contained units accommodating 44 students each the new units will provide liv ing facilities for a total of 264 upperclassmen individual names for each of the six centennial houses will be an nounced by lehigh's board of trustees
