the engineers are undefeated in dual meets against eastern competition and the closest an eastern rival has come to beating the engineers is 17-11 however what is logical doesn't always occur especially in wrest ling six other teams can win the tournament should the engineers falter syracuse perm state cornell pitt navy and army have the potential to take the trophy away from its resting place in taylor gym lehigh's big scoring threat rests in the first three weights and heavyweight but the engineers must score in the middle weights if they expect to retain the eastern title bob hartecstine harley ferguson and ron bushner hold the keys to retain the crown all three grapplers have the potential to place but it will take an outstanding effort from them to clinch the cup the engineers terrific trio — mike caruso joe peritore and bill stuart — and big john illengwarth are all expected to make the finals and provide the bulk of lehigh's scoring all three lightweights are occur only during the evening hours the competition will start at 8 p.m with a 250 prize and a trophy going to the winner the jazz moderns a child of the music department was organized in the beginning of 1964 through the efforts of bill lowe 66 they made their public debut at the pops concert last may and performed in the fall semester at two university center coffee houses since then their reper toire has increased steadily on successive days the fratern ities will be announced by the interfraternity council when they are selected on monday sir denis and mr and mrs blaustein will be the guests of honor at a formal dinner given by president and mrs w deming lewis the three-day event will be co ordinated by dr carey b joynt head of the department of inter national relations student activ ities will be directed by peter t meszoly 65 maury b poscover 66 ronald t casper 65 and v rodger digilio 65 the first lecture which is open to the general public will be held in grace hall on march 22 at 8:15 p.m three other lectures will be held on tuesday evening wednes day afternoon and wednesday eve ning all in the university center six student organizations have listed plans to honor sir denic brogan when he initiates the blau stein lecture series later this month the noted british authority on american foreign policy will pre sent several lectures from mon day march 22 through wednes day march 24 based on the theme the present dilemmas of ameri can foreign policy in a changing world the gryphon society will host sir denis at a dinner on tuesday in the university center after the tuesday evening lecture he will attend a residence halls council reception and dinner wed nesday evening he will be the guest of arcadia at a reception following wednesday's lecture in addition three fraternities will hold luncheons for sir denis by chuck tschampion peting in the semi-finals on fri day afternoon each group is required to pre sent a 14-minute program for their semi-final round one number in their repertoire must be a charlie parker tune saturday morning will be de voted to a jazz workshop in which the judges will be active partici pants the festival will receive coverage from abc radio free europe the armed forces net work and a canadian network the following wednesday's com petition at lycoming less exten lehigh's 11-month-old 16-mem ber jazz moderns will be putting their talent to the test twice this month the jazz group which has per formed a number of times on cam pus will enter their first competi tion the villanova intercollegiate jazz festival on march 19 and 20 this will be followed on march 25 by an intercollegiate music com petition at lycoming college the villanova competition ded icated to composer-musician char lie bird parker will have as judges jazz greats phil woods maynard ferguson oliver nelson and stan kenton bob share di rector of music at the university of california at berkeley and john hammond scout for columbia records will also help with the judging the semi-final round will be broken into sessions on friday afternoon and evening and sat urday afternoon finalists will then perform on saturday night the jazz moderns will be com notice members of the faculty staff and student body who receive new automobile li cense numbers as a result of the change of plates in penn sylvania scheduled for this month should report their new numbers to the depart ment of buildings and grounds as soon as the new plates are placed on the car science study to be offered a new four-year curriculum in fundamental sciences will be offered this coming september dr alan s foust dean of the college of engineering announced wednesday the new curriculum which will lead to a b.s degree is designed for undergraduates interested in the increasing number of careers which require extensive knowl edge of more than one of the con ventional engineering and science fields it will combine at least two of the traditional engineering and science disciplines into a single major for students interested in bio-engineering aerospace mater ials science geophysics and marine science careers the new program is to be of
