hugh mccluskey 66 everyone had a merry time lu students bring christmas to needy editor's note the folloxving is the text of the nezv univer sity alcoholic beverage policy released yesterday by preston parr dean of student life and of accompanying remarks by dean parr the gqneral principle of conduct at lehigh is that students are expected at all times to conduct themselves as gentlemen and good citi zens from the university publication procedures regulations requirements 8.1 c the university does not encourage any use of alcoholic beverages by students and is particularly concerned about the misuse of such beverages the attention of all students is directed to the pennsylvania liquor and penal codes partially summarized below — all persons while iin the commonwealth of pennsylvania are sub ject to the pennsylvania liquor and penal codes the law provides that any person less than 21 years of age minor who attempts to purchase purchases consumes possesses or transports any alcoholic beverages within pennsylvania is subject to fine or imprisonment or both — the selling or furnishing of alcoholic beverages of any kind to persons under 21 years of age by any agency or person is prohibited the law has been interpreted to mean that no person under 21 years of age may pay assessments which will be used in whole or in part for the purchase of alcoholic beverages — it is unlawful to misrepresent one's own age to obtain alcoholic beverages or to represent to a liquor dealer that a minor is of age — it is unlawful to possess or see parr page 5 the slc devoted much of its at tention to the problem of a new university policy pertaining to university liquor regulations and policy richardson reportedly asked the faculty to support a mo tion at next month's faculty meet ing the sources indicated that an a new statement of university policy pertaining to alcoholic bev erages was released yesterday by preston parr dean of student life the statement stresses the con formity of university policy to the pennsylvania liquor and penal codes and charges univer sity living groups with responsi bility for enforcement of both state codes and university policy the new policy specifically pro hibits alcoholic beverages on all university grounds and in all freshman residence areas grace hall the university center all other nonersidential areas taylor stadium and on all playing fields the revised policy is based on recommendations by the 1963-64 student life committee slc that student officers of university social groups should bear the re sponsibility for the conduct of social events of their groups and that every effort should be made to equalize social opportunities among the living groups previously responsibility for en forcement and compliance with liquor laws and regulations was unclear and on dec 2 arcadia passed a motion recommending that dr charles a seidle vice president for administration take immediate steps to clarify the uni versity's alcoholic beverage policy in the light of a series of past events however the arcadia ac tion appears to have been coinci dental with — rather than respons ible for — approval of the new university policy through normally reliable sources the brown and white learned recently that last year's slc chairman prof wallace j richardson revived the subject of alcoholic beverage policy at the november faculty meeting last year under richardson for 12 needy children on saturday afternoon the children were en tertained by the fraternity broth ers and were given gifts by santa claus marty schlauch 66 acted as santa delta tau delta will entertain 10 boys from the allentown state hospital tomorrow afternoon the party will follow dinner and the children will join with the frater nity brothers in singing carols ken bareford 67 will act as san ta claus and distribute gifts delta upsilon had eight girls and seven boys who ranged in age from seven to ten at a party on sunday the children were from the bethlehem area and sent to see a multitude page 6 lehigh university students have helped and will continue to help make christmas happier for many underprivileged persons in the allentown-bethlehem area six fraternities and one inde pendent house are sponsoring christmas parties this week chi psi entertained almost 200 patients at the allentown general hospital on sunday twenty members of the fraternity parti cipated in the giving of more than 50 gifts to the patients including 25 small children the gifts were distributed by dick pfunder 67 who played santa claus as the lodgers traveled from ward to ward chanting carols alpha sigma phi held a party concert cancelled travis leaves bud cold bethlehem pa — tuesday december 15 1964 new lu policy issued on alcoholic drinks 866-0331 brown and white concert by bud and travis famed folk-singing duo the pair had performed in washington friday evening tra vis had remained there while bud and their bass player buckwheat stayed at a motel in arlington va on saturday morning bud and buckwheat flew to philadelphia the stage was set nearly 1,000 people were waiting bud was ready but travis apparently was lost somewhere between washing ton d c and bethlehem this was the situation in grace hall saturday afternoon prior to the cancellation of the scheduled 34 students take steps to join peace corps thirty-four lehigh students became eligible for the peace corps last week dean william quay coordinator for the peace corps at lehigh termed the visit by four representatives of the corps very successful he said the visitors were favorably impressed by the number of in quiries received and by the after-dinner discussions with various living groups mary holland a member of the peace corps staff in washington expressed surprise that 34 students both completed their applications and took the placement test she said this is a very large number for a university of this size however they were unable to get a plane to bethlehem because of the hazardous weather condi tions and drove the rest of the way in a rented car they arrived about an hour and a half before the scheduled concert travis apparently was unable to solve his difficulties bud had re ceived no word of his partner's whereabouts early sunday the cancellation was delayed more than half an hour in the hope that travis would show up how ever brooks zug president of the class of 67 which sponsored the event finally announced the can cellation to permit grace hall to be set up for the evening basket ball game money will be refunded upon presentation of tickets 4-8 p.m tomorrow and thursday in room 202 university center no money will be refunded after 8 p.m thursday robert billincer as sir thomas more and cilmer mccor mick as lady margaret more hold stage center in the m&c production a man for all seasons the play which was presented last thursday friday and saturday is based on the disagreement of more with
