calvin s mankowski 63 will assume the position of brown and white editor-in-chief effective march 21 mankowski's appointment fol lowed the resignation of the pres ent editor george r keiser 62 keiser whose resignation cited academic pressures will assume the editorial page editorship for the remainder of the semester mankowski served as news cdi tor last year and is now editorial page editor a position which he has held since september 1962 by jeff stives there are few persons on the lehigh campus who have not at one time or enother encountered the welcoming smile and warm gre tin hand of dr charles a sei r lle to lehigh applicants this hearly interest and cordiality have signified more of the university than the steeple of packer h 11 or of the glass encased packard auto mobile after 24 years at the university dr seidle was appointed univer sity vice president for adminis tration e?r!y list month a position which encemppsses nearly every aspect of student life from health services to residence halls to help him face his new job dr seidle brings a background well suited to the position he began his career in education at lehigh in 1938 as assistant di rector of admission he served in the army during world war ii from 1942 to 1947 and helped estab see admissions page 6 one of many — dr charles a seidle director of admissions and newly appointed vice president for administration confers with robert b davidson of gradyville penna who has been offered ac ceptance to the college of engineering conferences of this type are an everyday aspect of dr seidle's work mr w b pearce accompanies davidson investigation of fraternity rush ing " to include the rushing practices of the gryphon society and the residence halls council raymond hodil 63 author of the arcadia motion said his action was prompted by student opinion and concern over the rushing prac tices of the two groups m&c s finest lark is excellent production william l quay assistant to the dean of students has agreed to appear before an arcadia meeting march 21 at which he will discuss the nature status and role of the gryphon society within the univer sity community his speech will be presented at 7:30 pm in the davis room of the university center after the regular arcadia meeting which follows the talk audience comment will be pernrtted quay is presently chairman of a subcommittee of the student ac tivities committee which is completing a report en this subject i shall be happy to discuss questions by arcadia members quay said in a letter to the student council however if during the course of the meeting a public discussion takes place i will excuse myself at that point while i believe v is essential for visitors to hear the discus sion i feel that my role must be detached and dispassionate hence my reluctance to debate with non arcadians should you vote to be come a committee as a whole he added quay also commended arcadia for their willingness to discuss issues intelligently and openly which he said indicates a deep seated respect for the concept of free inquiry a concept upon which the academic community is found ed arcadia last week resolved to meet in annual giving drive agents from 60 lehigh classes will be on campus tomorrow to or ganize the collection of alumni donations to the 1961-62 annual giv ing fund the fund collected by the alumni association also solicits dona tions from parents and industry this year's goal is 600,000 announcement of the meeting was made by edward a curtis 26 national chairman of the fund and vice-president of the new jersey bell telephone company the alumni representatives began their round of activities with a buffet luncheon at noon in room 303 of the university center at 2:00 p.m the group will move to room 403 for the annual meeting of the annual meeting of the alumni agents of the fund see neville page 7 after our names are forgotten . . . — the lark act 2 last night jean anouilh mus tard & cheese and dana greene worked together to feather this giant bird with some of the finest plumes of theatre seen recently on the broughal boards the lark one of the better mod ernistic plays was produced on broadway in 1955 and has quickly grown in popularity presented by the hallmark hall of fame three years ago the lark is joan a simple farmgirl who was told by michael the archangel to recap ture france from the english dana greene last night made st joan a beautiful character with simplicity and naturalness we watched as she humbly received her divine instructions and carried them out with the charm and sim plicity of the teenager she is miss greene captivated the audience with her unaffected serenity and her youthful ways she has shown marked improvement with every m&c play but this was her crown ing achievement almost all of the major roles were handled well warwick a powerful military leader was played by pete tocci with strength and force richard hupka was masterful as the inquisitor who be leaguered joan hupka seemed made for this role and played it with authority and perfect timing ralph hilton added a tasteful sense of comic relief as he played the adolescent charles dauphin of france a selfish ludicrous char acter whose insecurity on the throne was reflected in hilton's blank gazes and nervous smiles his mother helen search see dana page 7 william l quay ? rev beardslee guest speaker at sun chapel the rev alvord m beardslee 50 will be the guest speaker at the chapel service at 11 a.m sun day for the past two years the rev mr beardslee has been serving as chaplain of hollins college near roanoke va he is the son of a former chaplain of the university and a brother-in-law of dean preston parr the rev mr beardslee was ac tive in student activities as
