the brothers four special to the brown and white by george r keiser harrisburg feb b—"we8 — we must keep p.-ce with the educational battle that is going on all over the world because the cold war will be won in the classroom pennsylvania governor lawrence told the college press today in a 70-mitrute press conference with about 100 student editors the governor charged that it is a waste of meney not to have school buildings occupied around the clock and around the calendar we have been getting more education out of the tri-semester pro gram at the university of pittsburgh than ever before he noted the role of the private educa tional institution will not be changed by establishment of state supported community colleges the governor said explaining a pro posed legislative program which will be submitted to the 196s penn sylvania legislature this plan will bring the col lege to the student governor lawrence said and has been de signed for students who would otherwise not have the opportunity to attend college describing his administration as very educational minded gover nor lawrence said we are in favor of anything that will broad en the base for obtaining a col lege education we have often missed out on outstanding brains because the out the brothers four popular folk singing group will present a two hour concert in grace hall tomor row at 1 p.m the program which has long been sold out will precede the le high-army wrestling match the well-known group which has years entertained college audi ences and is quite used to sell-outs met originally as fraternity broth ers of phi gamma delta at the university of washington they discovered they had a mutual love for music and singing despite the fact that none of them could read music they soon hit the big time with their first professional job at the hungry i in san francisco where they were spotted and signed by mort lewis manager of the jazz favorite dave brubeck less than six months later they were signed to a columbia records contract and had a top hit almost immediately — greenfields despite their interest in the mu sic fields each of the members of the group had quite different as pirations before they joined hit making forces john paine was studying to be come a lawyer and planned to * chenea to lecture at 8 move possibly into the u s dip lomatic service later on he is the quartet's publicity and promotional cameraman as well as one of the singers dick foley was in engineering at washington but he now plays five musical instruments for the group organ piano janbo ukulele and tenor guitar mike kirkland was an honor student in college student-faculty forms student-faculty position applica tions are now available at the stu dents activities desk r steven schiavo arcadia president has announced also ready are applications for this semesters arcadia associates students interested in these posi tions are urged to return the forms no later than feb 14 velop and improve the univer sity's educational quality and tech niques dr chenea has published sev eral articles on engineering and engineering education the most recent of which teaching design for the rest of the twentieth cen tury appeared in the journal of engineering education in march of 1961 39,000 is received for research expansion home club presentation — dr harvey a neville pres ident of lehigh university accepts crystal urn from mark par seghian jr 49 see story page 4 dr paul f chenea vice-pres ident of purdue university will lecture tonight in the packard lab auditorium at 8:00 p.m the topic will be the next de cade in engineering and engineer ing education chenea's lecture is sponsored by tau beta pi honorary engineering fraternity and by the cooperative lecture series committee as vice-president of purdue university he has worked to de ?
