students interested in capturing the williams debate contest spoils 200 and a paul revere silver bowl—should register the week of oct 24 in room 313 christmas saucon hall previously first prize was an award of 150 all eligible debaters — anyone except previous williams first place winners and varsity debat ers — w in compete in the intramur al fraternity vs residence hall vs town progrsm opening oct 31 each speaking team must repre sent one living group preliminary rounds scheduled ? for oct 31 at 7:30 p.m nov 2 and nov 4 at 4:10 p.m will be judged in christmas-saucon hall the final round nov 8 at 7:30 pm will be heard in the davis room of the university center the public is invited to the finals following a similar system for i'our years now the contest will highlight actual court cases from which contestants will choose shortly before each round begins adjudged by faculty members on delivery knowledge of case ability to refute and ability to ex temporaneously establish a case from signs and cheers are seen and heard everywhere proclaiming «. various candidates to be positively the ugliest ever the library steps are alive with students seeking to drop their coins into ballot boxes as a vote for the candidate of their choice what has caused this fervor the answer is in the list of 16 ugly candidates prof jonathan elkus ugliest in the eyes of tau delta phi is con stantly in front of the public as lehigh's band director a rally for elkus complete with girls from neighboring colleges and a scream ing siren was held in the fresh man quadrangle and sayre park tuesday afternoon john highfield star football quarterback is phi gamma delta's choice a popular man at lehigh he certainly must appear ugly to gridiron opposition delta phi has borrowed dr george mccoy from the health center as their candidate he has been well known these past few weeks . . . but try to get a gym ex cuse from him professor george dinsmore a name that strikes fear in the heart of every program of visiting clergy other guest clergy will include the rev dr howard cox dr hagen staack the rev david sweet and dean charles w bren nan rev davies prior to his appoint ment to the princeton faculty headed the department of church history at mansfield and regent's park colleges oxford university born in south wales in 1916 he received both his m.a and bach elor of divinity degrees at edin burg university in 1943 oxford conferred on him a doctorate in philosophy during world war ii and the years immediately follow ing he served abroad in germany and south africa his published works in a combined meeting with its cedar crest college equals discussed plans for a mo torcade heralding the arrival of sen scott before his verbal clash with his philadelphia neighbor sen clark clark will be greeted by the young democratic club and the students for kennedy and john son unit when he speaks at a democratic dinner in the univer sity center the dinner will also include skj clubs from cedar crest moravian muhlenberg and lafayette col leges the two senators will dine with the debate steering committee before they take on partisan chores tickets for the debate — which begins at 8:30 p.m in grace hall — are available at the student ac tivities desk in the university cen ter or from members of the young republican and young democratic clubs the debate itself is similar to the kennedy - nixon television tangles which are presently mak ing political history each senator will state the case for his party in ten-minute open ing presentations after which a pane of students and faculty rev horton m davies parking regulations passed for residence hall students a compilation of all residence halls council parking regulations and a constitution for the parking committee were passed at the rhc meeting tuesday evening in the university center also included was a discussion of the installation of the new vend ing machines in the five dorms vice-president charles shubin and parking committee chairman ronald cross dominated the 45-minute meeting with a discussion of both topics both men were instrumental in the compiling of the rules although no significant changes have been made in the policies or regulations of the committee two facts were stressed in the new editions the first point is that failure to pay fines or attend the hearing within one week will result in having the violation considered a sec ond offense continued neglect of the violation will add violations each week until at the point of a fifth theoretically five weeks after notification the rhc
