activities office on the first floor of the univer sity center francis m huffman 22 director and assistant vice-president traffic department of bethlehem steel and robert b honeyman 20j noted book colector of california are new trustees of the university huffman who graduated as a metallurgical engineer has spent his entire business career with bethlehem steel starting in 1922 as a looper he served in the sales offices in philadelphia and chicago befjore becoming manager of sales in st louis he was assistant general traffic manager from 1940-1944 traffic manager 1944-47 and gen eral traffic managers from 1947 un til april 1959 when he was named a director and assistant vice-pres ident of the traffic department honeyman served as an engineer in charge of operations of coal mines in colorado later he was a petroleum geologist today he is one of the fore most book collectors in the u.s and has contributed great ly to thet general and rare book collections of the library among his contributions are an extensive collection of american and english literature first edi tions one of the finest collections in the country of the works of james fenimore cooper and what is reputedly the best collection of the works of charles darwin in the u.s lone but depicting the development of le high in personal as well as factual terms watchman on the moun tain — a 23-minute color film pro duced by byron studios washing ton d c — is now ready for showing to students faculty and staff the film presents the story of lehighs role in higher edu cation as seen through the eyes of a professor about to retire in the first sequence the pro fessor looks out over his class which is involved in final ex aminations in following scenes images which flow through the professor's mind are seen the lehigh he visualizes maxwell resigns post molter his successor with upgraded programs fuld named wlrn manager john w maxwell 26 bursar and purchasing agent for 16 years has resigned his positions to become business manager of the new flor ida presbyterian college in st petersburg albert c molter a retired army officer and former pro fessor of military science and tactics here has been named to succeed maxwell as pur chasing agent miss edith a seifert a member of the busi ness staff of the university since 1923 has been promoted to bursar maxwell's resignation comes as a surprise to students faculty mem bers and alumni although rea sons for his move have not been officially disclosed the prospects of a better and more responsible position at the brand new florida school are factors which may have led to his resignation after his long affiliation with lehigh the bursar is expected to leave for his new job within the month a business administration grad uate of lehigh maxwell while at school was editor of the brown and white epitome a member of omicron delta kappa vice-presi dent of pi delta epsilon and var sity member of the cross country team he was a bequest of 15 million lehigh will become the recipient of an approximately one and one half million dollar estate through the recent death of mrs elizabeth gillmer packard widow of the late james ward packard 84 the bequest one third of packard's estate was left to lehigh when he died in march 1928 with the provision that it be held in trust until mrs packard's death also receiving one third shares of the estate are warren packard the benefactor's nephew and the seaman's institute of new york during mrs packard's lifetime one quarter of the income from the entire estate after a 25,000 deduction came to lehigh this share amounted to approximately 51,600 last year packard a mechanical engineering graduate founded the packard motor car company and the packard electrical company he is well known for his work in the development of the early automobile alums huffman and honeyman named to board just a small dent harry j staas 60 points to the battered remains of his 1952 ford after he was struck at the blind corner of rennig and morton sts the accident occurred at 1 p.m last saturday loyalty oath aims top solons agenda the bequest of one third of his estate is in addition to the 1,200,000 packard donated in 1927 for the construction and equipping of the james ward packard electrical and me chanical engineering labora tory the laboratory considered one of the finest of its kind when built was completed in 1929 in addition to the trust packard established a research fund now valued at 625,000 which finances a fellowship in either electrical or mechanical engineering university treasurer elmer w glick stated that the bequest will be added to the general endowment fund the income from it may be used for any purposes the board of trustees desires he noted glick pointed out orlin livdahl 61 secretary and joseph pittenger 61 treasurer ' watchman movie ready for general exhibition discussion of the ndea issue was opened by arcadia's newly appointed nsa coordinator brian bauknight 61 who told the solons investigation of nsa material had disclosed strong points for and against the strongly-debated oath and disclaimer affidavit morris kelsey 61 expressed approval of the oath stating that it was the same oath signed upon enlistment in the u.s army when carl greer 62 admitted his ignorance of the problem shul man suggested the solons postpone discussion until the council mem bers familiarized themselves with nsa material involving 1001 f see objectives page 3 a rigid examination of all aspects of university life will be conducted from feb 14 to 17 when 23 noted educators will be on campus to evaluate lehigh purpose of the evaluation is to obtain reaccreditation for lehigh in the middle states association of colleges and secondary schools such eval uations are made every 10 to 12 years the last one here being in 1947 by the msa one of five regional groups in the country the process of reaccreditation consists of three parts first the institution must define in part the rules for evaluation by stating clear ly and positively its educational objectives next a full report is required of the institution which necessitates the participation of the entire fac ulty and staff in compliance with this requrement a massve three volume 550 page report has been compiled by the editorial commit tee of the evaluation planning com mittee in preparing the information dean wray h congdon execu tive chairman of the planning committee had asked last spring for student comment on student personnel services he expressed extreme disappoint ment over the fact that not one reply was made to his request the third part the actual evalua tion visit is made by a team of col leagues and peers selected by the association from other institutions and organizations each member will be a specialist in some general area of inquiry following the visitation the team prepares a report of its findings which is submitted to the associa tion's accreditation board the
