band to present winter concert traditional and contemporary march rhythms will highlight the university concert band's winter concert friday feb 22 at 8:15 p.m in grace hall fror jonathan elkus assist ant professor of music and bandmaster will conduct the program will include bruck ner's apollo march schoenberg's themfe and variations op 43a elegie fanfare and march by rog er nixon music from the film things to come by sir arthur bliss kalinnikov's finale from symphony no 1 and the march the battle of shiloh by c l barn house schoenberg's theme and varia tions are easily the most conser vative of the many essays which schoenberg made in this form prof elkus noted surprisingly he continued the idiom of this work is definitely tonal and the harmony see marches page 4 discuss art show — committee was estab lished by the council the same nighi fraternity legislators vetoed the con troversial rushing and contactini plan proposed by student life com mittee horton predicted last week as was faced with last year actually most of the sum which lehigh received as gifts was already earmarked for a specific project when the university received it all of the income from the various trusts and bequests is restricted for different uses in some cases money is bequeathed to the university without any restrictions at which time the trustees decide how it is to be used in most cases funds of this kind are set up as memorial endowment funds the income from the fund is used as the trustees see fit some of the funds are so arranged that the trus tees may use the income entirely at their discretion the asa packer fund is an example of such a fund university seeks 350,000 at present the principle of the fund amounts to 2,444,759 the fund is added to each year from the income of the estates of asa packer and harry e packer 01 the principle of the dravo fund was brought to its total of 1,385,319 last year on the settlement of the estate of fanny m dravo the fund was estab lished during 1954 there are almost 150 separate endowment funds the principle of the total endowment fund is over 14,000,000 the money which comes in from the annual giv ing fund is used for projects which have been de cided on before the campaign begins in 1957-58 the goals of the campaign were new lab equipment the improvement of campus and grounds new seats for packer church and the renovation of the north end of the alumni memorial building some of these projects have been completed and the rest are under way over 200,000 of this year's goal of 350,000 has been reached at this time com pared to
