the hare system of proportional represen tation sophomore talucci was the first to be elected garnering the necessary 179-vote quota his election came on the 18th transfer of ballots a record 1,433 ballots were cast in the three-day election period surpassing the 1957 total of 1,206 and 56's score of 1,163 this represents 53 per cent of the electorate elections chairman jack branning had expected a 75 per cent plurality only eight of the ballots were invalidated due to improper vote-casting branning noted that many voters failed to use their seven allotted votes permissable under the hare system the counting was held in the journalism class room in the richard harding davis publications wing arcadia associates and elections committeemen under took the actual counting dr willard yates assistant professor of government advised the group talucci was followed by the official election of roglieri and mountain elected on the 20th transfer otis johnson was the only other man to
