november 2 at the home of professor hughes professor lambert spoke on the history of christianity and of the trend of religious thought in senej the talk was particularly appro priate in view of the present-day interest in religious subjects on the part of scientific investiga tors although sixty thousand men were killed and the cause for america's entrance in the strug gle was not for any material ob ject she had no land to gain but rather our country entered the war with a view of doing some good nearly ten years have now passed since the beginning of the world war but within that ten years nothing definite has been accomplished the world is in a constant struggle today not a physical struggle but an econ omic one although the united states is rich and the general at titude seems to be one of care lessness about europe's affairs it is of intense importance and to our own interests that we do concern ourselves with their economic affairs our whole lives and fortunes rest on a re vitalized europe when peace was signed at the conclusion of the civil war events were entirely different no huge indemnities were de manded but both sides co-oper ated to again put affairs on a normal basis the victors re turned to the vanquished the cannons that they might cast plowshares with them and the horses for spring plowing de spite the fact that the present college students cannot say that they were in the war they can be of inestimable value in the next few years to come by aid ing in rebuilding the economic structure of europe to its form er efficiency last saturday lehigh's fight ing eleven completely outplayed the blue and gold colored buck nell team although by the breaks of the game they were held to a 7-7 tie the game it self was replete with thrills it was by far the best exhibition of football displayed by the brown and white team so far this year contrary to general expectations the game was re markably clean and free from roughness not a player on ei ther side was seriously injured p.nd only twice was time called for men being slightly hurt the lehigh eleven fought as they have only done once before this year when they defeated carnegie tech last week this fight was due to a certain ex tent to the presence of the le high football coach of three years ago frank glick at the game the lehigh team as well as the lehigh students who made the trip to see the game were overjoyed to see coach glick once again the field was very slippery and there was a strong west wind blowing up tustin field all the scoring was done in the j first five minutes of the first j quarter bucknell scored her touchdown on five plays when the ball was carried from the 14 yard line where it was received by foster who ran it back 35 yards a long pass over the en tire lehigh team foster to jenkins took the ball to lehigh's 30 yard line hall then made 3 yards off tackle and diehl through right side of the line made it first down on the next play diehl skirted right end for a score diehl kicked goal here lehigh braced and from then on with but a very few minutes had the ball in their opponents territory a brilliant broken field run by storer put the ball within scoring distance for le high on the very next play a long forward pass to the buck nell goal line storer to burke was responsible for the lehigh touchdown in the last two min utes of play the brown and white eleven tried for a field goal but failed by a matter of several feet lewin tried a drop kick from the 35 yard line at a very difficult angle the ball went straight and true through the center of the uprights but failed to clear the bar the outstanding player of the game was storer the great le high triple threat man his punting was excellent his pas ses almost unbelievable in their accuracy and his broken field running was baffled by the bucknell eleven storer was robbed of a touchdown at the end of the first half when he broke through the bucknell team and went over the goal line only to be called back be cause the referee had blown his whistle prematurely mcgold rick substituting in merril's tackle position played a remark able game and on nearly every kick he was down the field be fore the lehigh ends and tackl ed the bucknell receiver in his tracks the entire lehigh line played well ; after the first few minutes of play they held the star bucknell backs who line plunged through yale for two touchdowns earlier in the sea son the game play by play fol lows : first period bucknell won the toss and elected to receive hendershott kicked to foster on the 14 yard line who returned it to the 86 yard line a forward pass fos ter to magee advance the ball supplanting the customary chapel talk friday prof j l stewart gave a terse address on the significance of the signing cf the armistice and a very brief summary of conditions be iore and after the recent war prof stewart's remarks and the singing of patriotic selections constituted a short program in observance of armistice day at i lehigh university a few high spots in pro fessor stewart's remarks were as follows : the tendency to easily forget the recent occuren ces relating to the world war and the signing of the armistice is only too true the signing of the armistice in 1918 may be re valled now as a day of extreme rejoicing and merry making but what definite good to the world has materialized since then peace has not proved true has not bound up the wounds nor has it caused prosperity in the first place the years preceeding the war were in a very placid age there were few living then who remembered the civil war and consequently very few had any conception as to just what war meant what was it that would throw a high ly developed civilization into a savage struggle like that the civil war was simply a drop in the bucket compared to the four years of the most terrible de struction in history that the world war was it is true that comparatively united states did not suffer as severely as others brown and white bethlehem pa tuesday november 13 1923 open letter by dean m'conn mustard and cheese hold try-outs wednesday get that lick lafayette spirit now let s co-operate with the dean on territory again as the half | was drawing to a close fernan dez took the ball from a scrim mage in front of the visitors goal and with a well directed kick tied the score the half ended with the ball in lehigh's territory the violet was outclassed in the second period and except for a few rallies throughout the half had little opportunity to score the brown and white aggregation strengthened by the rest between the periods played better soccer and caused the visitors no little worry clothi er's advance of half the length of the field and fernandez's shot which won the game for lehigh were the outstanding features of the period the new yorkers had under estimated the strength of the le high team and were surprised at the opposition offered by the latter both teams were well balanced and some clever pass ing was exhibited by each ag gregation the hard consistent playing of clothier and captain fernandez were the bright spots for lehigh while ginsberg and baum starred for the visitors next saturday the brown and white aggregation will play their third league game when she meets swarthmore here the season so far gives swarthmore a slight edge as she has won her only league game monthly meeting held november 2 at the home of professor hughes professor lambert spoke on the history of christianity and of the trend of religious thought in senej the talk was particularly appro priate in view of the present-day interest in religious subjects on the part of scientific investiga tors although sixty thousand men were killed and the cause for america's entrance in the strug gle was not for any material ob ject she had no land to gain but rather our country entered the war with a view of doing some good nearly ten years have now passed since the beginning of the world war but within that ten years nothing definite has been accomplished the world is in a constant struggle today not a physical struggle but an econ omic one although the united states is rich and the general at titude seems to be one of care lessness about europe's affairs it is of intense importance and to our own interests that we do concern ourselves with their economic affairs our whole lives and fortunes rest on a re vitalized europe when peace was signed at the conclusion of the civil war events were entirely different no huge indemnities were de manded but both sides co-oper ated to again put affairs on a normal basis the victors re turned to the vanquished the cannons that they might cast plowshares with them and the horses for spring plowing de spite the fact that the present college students cannot say that they were in the war they can be of inestimable value in the next few years to come by aid ing in rebuilding the economic structure of europe to its form er efficiency last saturday lehigh's fight ing eleven completely outplayed the blue and gold colored buck nell team although by the breaks of the game they were held to a 7-7 tie the game it self was replete with thrills it was by far the best exhibition of football displayed by the brown and white team so far this year contrary to general expectations the game was re markably clean and free from roughness not a player on ei ther side was seriously injured p.nd only twice was time called for men being slightly hurt the lehigh eleven fought as they have only done once before this year when they defeated carnegie tech last week this fight was due to a certain ex tent to the presence of the le high football coach of three years ago frank glick at the game the lehigh team as well as the lehigh students who made the trip to see the game were overjoyed to see coach glick once again the field was very slippery and there was a strong west wind blowing up tustin field all the scoring was done in the j first five minutes of the first j quarter bucknell scored her touchdown on five plays when the ball was carried from the 14 yard line where it was received by foster who ran it back 35 yards a long pass over the en tire lehigh team foster to jenkins took the ball to lehigh's 30 yard line hall then made 3 yards off tackle and diehl through right side of the line made it first down on the next play diehl skirted right end for a score diehl kicked goal here lehigh braced and from then on with but a very few minutes had the ball in their opponents territory a brilliant broken field run by storer put the ball within scoring distance for le high on the very next play a long forward pass to the buck nell goal line storer to burke was responsible for the lehigh touchdown in the last two min utes of play the brown and white eleven tried for a field goal but failed by a matter of several feet lewin tried a drop kick from the 35 yard line at a very difficult angle the ball went straight and true through the center of the uprights but failed to clear the bar the outstanding player of the game was storer the great le high triple threat man his punting was excellent his pas ses almost unbelievable in their accuracy and his broken field running was baffled by the bucknell eleven storer was robbed of a touchdown at the end of the first half when he broke through the bucknell team and went over the goal line only to be called back be cause the referee had blown his whistle prematurely mcgold rick substituting in merril's tackle position played a remark able game and on nearly every kick he was down the field be fore the lehigh ends and tackl ed the bucknell receiver in his tracks the entire lehigh line played well ; after the first few minutes of play they held the star bucknell backs who line plunged through yale for two touchdowns earlier in the sea son the game play by play fol lows : first period bucknell won the toss and elected to receive hendershott kicked to foster on the 14 yard line who returned it to the 86 yard line a forward pass fos ter to magee advance the ball supplanting the customary chapel talk friday prof j l stewart gave a terse address on the significance of the signing cf the armistice and a very brief summary of conditions be iore and after the recent war prof stewart's remarks and the singing of patriotic selections constituted a short program in observance of armistice day at i lehigh university a few high spots in pro fessor stewart's remarks were as follows : the tendency to easily forget the recent occuren ces relating to the world war and the signing of the armistice is only too true the signing of the armistice in 1918 may be re valled now as a day of extreme rejoicing and merry making but what definite good to the world has materialized since then peace has not proved true has not bound up the wounds nor has it caused prosperity in the first place the years preceeding the war were in a very placid age there were few living then who remembered the civil war and consequently very few had any conception as to just what war meant what was it that would throw a high ly developed civilization into a savage struggle like that the civil war was simply a drop in the bucket compared to the four years of the most terrible de struction in history that the world war was it is true that comparatively united states did not suffer as severely as others brown and white bethlehem pa tuesday november 13 1923 open letter by dean m'conn mustard and cheese hold try-outs wednesday get that lick lafayette spirit now let s
