the blanket of snow that covered the campus did little to dampen the spirits of attenders of ifc weekend it did however cause many men anxious moments on friday when they made frantic calls to their dates to see if they were going to brave the storm and be on the 6:08 from new york mustard and cheese started the inter fraternity council week end off with the first showing of tea house of the august moon in broughal auditorium on friday night the play was well re ceived by enthusiastic audiences on both friday and saturday nights dixie music at its fast and furious best was presented by the christmas city six on the upper ¦ floor of grace hall on saturday afternoon blankets and coats were spread to cushion the hard floor as men and dates endured their second consecutive ifc dixie concert without beer the lemon soda and coke which were served did seem however to have a strange effect on many of the listeners and by 4:15 snow ball skirmishes were raging both in and outside of the building cocktail parties were the or der of the day in most living groups after the jazz concert followed by dinner and the job of getting ready for the monte deans to convene here during spring vacation see fortunes page 4 deans will turn students for three days next week when the annual meeting of the pennsylvania asso ciation of student personnel admin istrators meets here held at lehigh for the first time the conference of deans is unusual in that it is being held under a mandate from the last annual convention several years ago the ford foun dation gave the national association congdon cites cut rule of student personnel administrators 25,000 to provide introduction of the case study method into dean's meetings several national conventions have been held using this technique but the lehigh meet ing will be one of the first regional case study convocations developed at the harvard grad uate business school the case study method provides for discussion of specific individual problems rather than general principles the lehigh meeting will probably consist of ja harvard case a pennsylvania static case and a national association case fifty to 60 deans from the en tire state traveling from such distant points as pittsburgh will gather on the campus in addi tion many out of state guest deans are expected the men who will act as profes sors to the deans turned students will be john anthony brown assist ant to the president for development at temple university and frank g baldwin dean of men at cornell uni see student page 6 all students have been asked by dean of students wray h congdon to note the following faculty regulation regarding pre vacation cuts no make-up permits will as the rule be issued for absences occurring immediately preced ing or immediately following the spring recess except for serious illness certified by the health service or for off campus trips officially approved in advance exceptions in the case of working students will be made on receipt of a statement from his parent or guardian well in advance certifying that the absence is financially unavoid able and necessary and then only if the student's academic record and class attendance for the current semester warrants special consideration un 6-0331 waiter service to begin in center after vacation vol 69 — no 35 tuesday march 25 1,958 weekenders strut ... ... residence halls mail service we hope to have the waiter service shortly after the stu dents return from vacation an nounced associate dean of stu dents preston parr the larger table tops for the north dining room are available and will be installed during the coming week he said under the new plan students will not have to stand in a cafeteria-style line but will instead be seated at tables and waited on at 5:15 and 6:15 p.m the revamped mail service al though not definite at this date will very likely start on the first day of hp tix sales started by jr class cabinet classes after vacation because of a limited number of boxes freshman will share a box with another man upperclass residence halls men however will have individual boxes within the week the dean expects to have a letter to all residence halls men available telling them the number of their box the combination and with whom if anybody they will be sharing the box one advantage of the new service is expected to be twice-a-day deliv ery — once at 10 or 11 in the morn ing and again at 6 in the evening all residence halls students have beeh requested by the dean to no tify all correspondents and publish ers of the change from a dormitory to a box number an experienced post office worker who knows both postal and campus procedures has been retained by the university to establish and run the service the mail boxes are located on the second floor of the center outside the bookstore at windows at the front of the bookstore stamps will be sold and checks cashed because the opera tion is wholly a university groups duke ellington will bring his crew to campus on april 26 for what junior class officials predict will be one of the best attended dances in the history of hp ducats for the dance are going for 5.50 but junior class cabinet has lightened the load on wallets by banning corsages at the dance while ellington is beating out his famous rhythms on the bottom floor of grace hall walt simpson will be playing the smoother stuff on the top floor ellington is the first big name band at lehigh since the late dorsey brothers played for fall houseparty 1954 and was signed at a cost of 2,000 paul prestia 59 houseparty chairman recently stated that the junior class expects a heavy ticket sale the oft imitated duke has reigned for years as america's brown and white . . . sit
