lehigh receives lambert cup m&c's caine play 1 of finest in years herman wouk's pulitzer prize winnin drama the came mutiny court martial proved an excellent vehicle for mustard and cheese fri day night in broughal auditorium the play a presentation of a fictional naval case was without doubt one of the finest offer ings by m&c in recent years modern pianist jazz ensemble here for scl quiet weekend but wonderful by bob teufel lehigh the small college football champion of the east was form ally presented with the first annual lambert cup at toots shor's sunday along with cotton-bowl bound navy winner of the lambert trophy the once beaten engineers were presented with the award by the lambert brothers new york jewelers who established the major trophy in 1936 and the small college cup this year i president martin d whitaker accepted the cup for lehigh from henry lambert gen percy l sadler ath letic director coach bill leckonby and cp-captains dan nolan and pete williams were also at the presenta tion i whitaker told the brown and white all of us feel honored at the selection of lehigh as the out standing small school in the east i personally want to congratulate the team and coaching staff for a job well done as our representatives on the gridiron a word of congratulation must also be said to the whole student body for the support they gave the team all season . ." col troops fought during the liberation of france other offerings included wash ington's grand march a revolu tionary marching tune arranged by richard franko goldman water music suite by george frederick handel and semper fidelis com posed by john philip sousa during his directorship of the united states marine band dr aiken to whom the con cert is dedicated joined the le y.hjgh faculty in 19*1 a professor of history he was lsb i tfdvisor to the interfraternity council * he was a member of various scholarly associations including the american historical assn and the archaeological institue of amer ica in 1956 he was president of the lehigh valley foreign policy assn crest lehigh choirs join in vesper concert lehigh's glee club will combine with the cedar crest choirs to pre sent the traditional christmas ves pers next sunday at 4 p.m in packer memorial church major work on the program is the in ecclesiis by gabrieli a seventeenth century italian com poser the composition is bass drums and flute have been booked for the third program of the student con certs-lectures series they will ap pear at 8 friday evening in grace hall members of the lehigh family will be admitted lies in the study of composition with earl kin edward t cone roger sessions and milton babbitt his three-act opera ma barker is scheduled for its pre miere production this season at his alma mater princeton university quiet but wonderful was the general opinion of the sno ball weekend saturday afternoon the christ mas city six made their first big appearance at lehigh as jazz concerts go it was relatively quiet with guys and dates sitting around on the floor clapping a few couples dancing the six were great after dinner the weekenders con verged on broughal for the came mutiny courtmartial as one per son remarked the part of captain queeg was played to the hilt the play certainly was a success if the reactions of the audience are any in dication afterward couples made their way up the hill toward grace hall in the rain for the dance upon en tering the first thing in view was the immense white snowball hang ing from the ceiling spokes of red and white streamers completed the decor the mood at the dance was personified leisure perhaps this was the atmosphere which the band created couples danced and wandered around the floor no one seemed particulaly ac tive the center of james h wagner lehigh granted funds for research and aid grants totaling 14,600 from three industrial firms to lehigh univer sity were received recently according to elmer w glick university treasurer two grants come from the esso education foundation one of 5,000 was made without restrictions the second for 4,250 was a contribution for basic research in the department of chemical engin eering glick said that the university has been notified that procter & gamble will establish an additional undergraduate scholarship at lehigh next fall bringing the number of procter & gamble undergraduate full-tuition grants to four one for each class another undergraduate scholarship grant awarded to lehigh is 1,000 by the bendix aviation corporation this brings the total number of scholarships sponsored by business and industry to 88 an industrial scholarship committee comprised of 123 industrial lead ers throughout the united states is headed by william j priestly 08 director of the union carbide corporation since the committee's inception in 1952 under the leadership of the late robert p hutchinson 04 the growth of companies support ing scholarships at lehgih has jumped from 13 in
