since 1941 frank l magee a lehigh alum nus has been elected president of the board of directors of aluminum company of amerca magee who is 61 has been executive vice president of al coa since 1955 he succeeds i w wilson who was named chair man of the board a graduate of lehigh in 1917 as an electrical engineer magee suc ceeded dr eugene g grace in jan uary as a corporate trustee of le high university he has spent his entire business career with alcoa and held the post of vice president and general pro duction manager before becoming executive vice president he joined the board in 1952 floor was at lehigh for ifc weekend in march 1956 bob harry and his band are relative new-comers to the valley al though they've gained a following in the philadelphia area harry fea tures danceable music making his band different from past bands who kept proceedings on the upper floor "" "™"~"" — — — — — — of grace hall jumping maltby got his break in the business when benny good man offered him a job with the goodman band in a short time maltby was the number one goodman arranger as the goodman arranger malt by wound up writing six flats unfurnished a piece which be came one of goodman's first mil lion-record hits however the com poser felt that it was time to settle down and spend some time with his wife so they moved to chicago his fame preceded him and by the time maltby arrived an offer to become head staff arranger for the cbs radio network had been made soon after that he joined paul whiteman on his american broad casting system remaining there for several years .» maltby later decided toinake the jump to new york night spots with the reputation he had already made for himself he was soon doing arrangements for major television radio and recording companies because of composing fame he was offered a job as music drector when rca formed the x label his first record st louis blues mambo also became his first mil lion seller although hp bands have been announced the to the freshmen satur day night of houseparty issue i would like to state some facts as you know at the first meeting of the ifc this year sept 16 a motion was passed to exclude freshmen from fra ternity parties on the saturday night of fall houseparty week end later in the week arcadia passed a motion to ask ifc to reconsider its decision for vari ous reasons after i received the letter from joe gratto presi dent of arcadia informing me of arcadia's action i contacted both joe and charley tilling hast president of the class of 1958 and we discussed the prob lem the chief point that caused ar cadia to ask for a reconsideration was the question of the effect the ifc decision would have upon see ifc page 4 first chapel topic is hungry world the rev dr edwin w kortz first of five visiting chapel speakers for the fall semester will present his oermon a hungry world sun day at 11 a m . dr kortz is the executive director of foreign missions for the moravian church in america prior to his present assignment he taught practical theology at moravian theological seminary here in bethlehem for seven years before entering the teaching field he served as pastor of congregations in virginia ohio and pennsylvania in connecton with his direction of foreign missionary work for the moravian church dr kortz has traveled widely in central and south america chaplain raymond e fuessle also has yester day an autopsy at st luke's hos pital revealed that his death fol lowed a cerebral stroke doc aiken as he was known by as usual but complained that he felt ill he collapsed shortly after mrs aiken called police and a physician but the long-time member of the lehigh faculty was dead when they arrived doc aken as he was known by his numerous friends in the faculty student body and bethlehem com munity was born july 21 1907 the son of the late alfred l and eliza beth hopkins aiken he served as professor of history since july 1 1948 he came to lehigh in 1941 as assistant professor in history and was made associate professor in 1946 from 1942 to 1946 dr aiken served as a major in the united states army intelligence in the mid-east he holds a staff cita tion before joining the lehigh faculty he was instructor of history at mcmaster university hamilton ont canada he was graduated from yale university in 1929 and received the m litt degree from cambridge in england in 192 and his ph.d degree from yale in june 1939 dr aiken was advisor to ifc and dr william a aikei to the class of 58 he was also a member of phi alpha theta his tory honorary alpha delta phi so cial national building trades stabilization board and as an al ternate for the under-secretary of the war on the war man power commission in 1948 he was a member of the personnel advisory board of the hoover commission at the request of the army he went to germany to study the military government's civilian employee program in 1950 he studied and reported on combat pay problems prior to government
