administration attendance at chapel is required of freshmen and sophomores and is optional for the upper-class men exercises are held every day except saturday from 12 to 12.15 in order to get a pass seen that the work formerly execut ed by the secretary of the facul ty has been turned over to the dean it is the intention of dean mcconn to have instantly avail able full information regarding each student those facts relat ing to scholastic status secondly the dean is to act in an advisory capacity to any stu denl whj bis become involved in difficulties pertaining either to scholastic or personal affairs dean mcconn wishes to empha size the fact that while serving in the capacity as an integral part of the service bureau his office and he himself are ade quately equipped through past experience to solve those diffi culties in which students are prone to become involved third and last because of the complete and close contact which the office of the dean will be able to maintain mentals preliminary practice will start in a short time and will consist mainly of passjq and stickwork all men who intend to come out should do so at once before all sticks have been issued alumni memorial nears completion football practice in taylor stadium has now reached the secret stage wednesday after noon was devoted to a secret practice of punting and in gen eral handling of the ball the ffrst scrimmage of the season was held on tuesday coach baldwin lectured for a short time and then sent his men out on the field for a hard hour and a quarter's session with the scrubs last year the coach devoted his time mainly to de veloping the wonderful defensive that held lafayette to a no touchdown game and this year it seems that he is pushing of fensive tactics all but the last few minutes the varsity prac ticed an offensive game against the scrubs since the scrimmage was the first of the season coach bald win changed his line-up very frequently in order to get a line on the merits of his men and also to test out the freshman material most of the men play ing on the line were veterans milton moth who was out all last season will probably play at his old position of center cap tain bill springsteen was as signed a place at tackle during the scrimmage and the indica tions are that he will remain there for the season the other men that the coach assigned to the line were walker at left end merrill at left tackle and lewis at left guard hoffman played guard on the other side spring steen held down the tackle posi tion and burke played at end the principal candidates out for quarterback position were astarita levin and raleigh as taria is a new man for the var sity squad and it looks as though he will put up a strong fight for the position astarita played on his class team last season and played a very strong game raleigh is a big 170 pounder from baltimore poly technic institute and shows great promise at the position lewin will be remembered from last year when he played a great game unfortunately he was forced out of the game after the first game of the season and was not called upon until the lafayette game coach baldwin's backfield line-up consisted candidates in this sport the administration building the gift of lehigh's loyal alum ni is now nearing completion nearly all the outside work has been completed only the stone masonry of the tower needs to be done the building if the work goes on at the same rate as now should be ready for oc cupancy by the end of fall this building will be by far the most beautiful and imposing building on the campus it will indeed be a real memorial from our alum ni and as such should always be held most dear to lehigh men members of three lower classes i are urged to report next tuesday lehigh home club rated by a point system points being given for each article printed accord l ing to its lengih method of handling and the interest shown a special credit will be given if the article is a scoop the way in which the competition is to be conducted will be fully ex plained at the meeting association with a university newspaper gives a man an in sight into college life which can be obtained in no of the annual meeting of the american institute of engineer ing earlier in the year when four stations co-operated the lehigh home club will co-operate in the nation-wide celebration of lehigh night e.s are having their first meeting this friday evening af 7.30 p m the speaker of the evening will be mr n perrins of the east man kodak co and his subject will be curious < patents tol lowing mr perrins talk vari ous members of the chemical department will welcome the freshmen and strongly urge them to join the society and be come an active worker for the biggest year in the history of the chemical society here at le high following the regular meeting there will be eats served by henry and a general session in which everybody will take part , the mining and metallurgy society will hold their first meeting on thursday evening october 11 and a special invi tation to all the freshmen min ers and mets will be extended by the officers and faculty mem bers of the society the prin cipal hottinger 24 will make a call for candidates in this sport the administration building the gift of lehigh's loyal alum ni is now nearing completion nearly all the outside work has been completed only the stone masonry of the tower needs to be done the building if the work goes on at the same rate as now should be ready for oc cupancy by the end of fall this building will be by far the most beautiful and imposing building on the campus it will indeed be a real memorial from our alum ni and as such should always be held most dear to lehigh men members of three lower classes i are urged to to fill vacancies but will be entirely based upon the ability of the candidates any man who does work which comes up to a certain standard of qual ity and who submits a sufficient quantity will be elected the competitors will be rated by a point system points being given for each article printed accord l ing to its lengih method of handling and the interest shown a special credit will be given if the article is a scoop the way in which the competition is to be conducted will be fully ex plained at the meeting association with a university newspaper gives a man an in sight into college life which can be obtained in no other way through his work on the paper he meets men prominent in all phases of university activity and the ability to write will be inval uable no matte r what work he station wear of the baltimore american or one of the philadelphia stations with the new york meeting the linking of five or six stations will set a new record as the pre vious record for simultaneous broadcasting was in the case of the annual meeting of the american institute of engineer ing earlier in the year when four stations co-operated the lehigh home club will co-operate in the nation-wide celebration of lehigh night by gathering at the commons on the campus for a dinner at 7 p m and to listen to the radio broadcasting from 8.30 to 10 p m each of the undergraduates is invited to be a guest of the home club on this occasion the charge for the dinner will be made as reasonable as possi ble probably being 1.50 the broadcasting of the pro gram will prove one of the most stimulating influences to the high school and preparatory school students who form the field from which future lehigh men are to come these pro spective undergraduates will be part of the vast audience of radio fans who will be sitting at their own receiving sets in their homes on that evening hundreds of thousands of radio fans throughout the east and middle west will listen in on the new york program and most of the lehigh men within range of these stations will be interested listeners while in attendance at smaller lehigh night meetings in a score or more cities the lehigh night radio meeting and dinner at the ma chinery club 50 church street new york city on friday even ing october 5 the night prev ious to the opening of the 4 000,000 greater lehigh fund campaign will go down in le high history as one of the most far-reaching events in the his tory of the institution and will be recorded in radio circles as the occasion of the largest simultaneous radio broadcast ing achievement to
