see alpha page 5 30 make who's who thirty seniors have been chosen for the 1956-57 college who's who by an arcadia committee selected for the honor were james a bain david w bates delamar bell jr nelson l bond jr william l collins richard r cunningham ray farkas peter m johnson james r keith i newton kinsey jr gegrge m lincoln jr arthur marcantonio richard l mitchell joseph a mooney william d g murray robert f naylor arnold h rosenberg valentine h santillo jr gary a scott lynn c scull austin e short john silinsh mahlon b simon jr david p stoltereck jr jerold j smith lewis m soars charles s strauch arthur g tritsch jr roy w wegen and everald wright the brown and white was award ed first class honor rating for the spring semester of 56 in the semi annual competition among college newspapers conducted by the as sociated collegiate press this rating of excellent was cne notch below the all-amer ican rating of superior which the b&w achieved for the fall semester of last year it received 1,670 points 30 shy of the 1,700 score which would have again placed it in the all-american category of the 25 two and three times weekly papers rated in this classification eight received frist class honors and five all-american coverage of news of the univer sity and the writing style in the b&w drew particular commenda tion an outstanding presentation of lehigh life i especially like the spot coverage commented g d hiebert who scored the paper your writing style moves fast is crisp good use of color words and effective organiza tion he commented hiebert praised the choice and dis play of types the makeup in gen eral and noted that the front pages by william e le clere the united states should have called for a cease-fire at the united nations in the middle east dispute instead of branding israel britain and france aggressors according to prof carey b joynt in thursday night's a.a.u.p debate on the political issues of the campaign joynt's views were expressed in answer to questions from the 50 lonely people who appeared in packard auditorium to hear three panelists discuss the major issues of the campaign other speakers were prof w r yates asst prof of political science and prof e c bratt professor of economics joynt is acting head of the department of international rela tions foreign policy was discussed im partially by joynt segregation by yates and the economic issues were handled by bratt joynt obviously had the loaded subject and as a re sult received most of the questions from the audience describing the term aggres sion as an elastic term he said he didn't feel the word should have been used here we all know who the real aggres sor is — colonel nasser stated the ir professor joynt also criticized britain for poor timing in stepping into the affair he felt the british govern ment should have waited until nas ser attacked israel then destroyed him when questioned about dulles role in developing foreign pol icy joynt indicated dulles would not go down in history as a great secretary of state as would dean acheson he called dulles policies incon sistent and basically muddled dulles has flown too far too fast too long he should have stayed in see writing page 4 see nasser page 3 the rt rev john vander horst d.d suffragan bishop of the epis copal diocese of tennessee will be the guest speaker at the annual military memorial service to be held in packer memorial chapel nov 11 at 11:00 a.m chaplain r e fuessle has announced bishop vander horst became suffragan bishop of tennessee in 1955 prior to his consecration as bishop he was rector of st paul's church chattanooga term he received his academic training at princeton oxford university england and the virginia theological seminary at alexandria va r.o.t.c cadets and faculty and staff members who are in the re serves are requested to attend the services in uniform cadets should meet outside the entrance at 10:45 a.m col albert c molter u.s army and col earl j berryhill us.a.f will read the scripture lesson this memorial observance has been transferred to the sunday nearest veterans day nov 11 from the last sunday in may when it was previously held by joe varilla honored leaders — new initiates into odk leadership honorary are from left to right joe gratto pres sloterbeck joe mooney bill scarlett george steward jim davidson tom shaver dick gaintner and roy wegen walt mannherz and dick mitchell are absent 11 inducted inio odk nolan crocks record packers romp 21 -
