median of 2.868 during the fall se mester in figures released by regis trar james h wagner tau delta phi fraternity was second high in the living group statistics with a score of 2.608 continuing its position of last se mester tau delt also led all fra ternities for the second straight grading period in third place with an average of 2.600 was delta chi other groups in the first 10 were pi lambda phi sigma alpha mv price hall rich ards iv-a drinker i theta chi and phi gamma delta the senior class placed between fifth and sixth with an average of 2.361 the junior class and all fra ernity men placed above the uni versity average of 2.020 while all town men all non fraternity dormi tory men all dormitory men all non-fraternity men the sophomore class and the freshman class fell below the university standard low group on the list was tempo i with its 1.578 median while sigma phi was the bot tom fraternity with its 1.656 average installation of television sets in the residence halls was rejected by a residence halls council sub-com mittee because it would be very im practical the cost greatly exceeding all possible benefits an electronics expert tested tv reception in dravo after setting up a roof antenna it was found that the only channels which could be tuned in even with a minimum of clearness were the philadelphia stations local stations could not be receiv ed unless a heavily insulated cable was run from bethlehem's master antenna or by tapping on to the fourth st outlet and run to the resi dence halls even with this at least one 1,000 booster would be needed since reception in dravo was very poor it was considered unlikely that reception in any of the other residence halls would be any bet ter since they are all at a lower ele vation the sub-committee investi gating was headed by ira s rosen berg 55 an even 300 freshmen accepted bids from the 30 greek letter frater nities approximately 517 bids were given out to 326 freshmen twelve sophomores also were recipient of a semester's study at american university in washington d.c he is the fifth lehigh man chosen for the grant since the program was instituted last fall nagle along with three more men yet to be selected will spend the fall 1955 semester at american studying government procedures first-hand he is considering working on various aspects of ameri can foreign policy as viewed by foreign powers as his major project during the semester's study prof rocco j tresolini who announced nagles appointment also stated that those interested in applying for the remainingthree quota grant should contact him within the next few weeks so that a full slate of nominees can be drawn up michael j lange 55 first lehigh man to take advantage of the ameri can grant last fall has completed his semester's work receiving straight a's in his studies at the nation's capital lange a sociology major also received an a for his major project entitled a survey of the lobbying activities of the united steelworkers of america arthur j roth 56 former brown and white editor-in-chief who along with michael d butterman 56 and myron s harkavy 56 is just beginning his studies at american visited lehigh saturday roth majoring in journalism states that he butterman and harkavy english majors are being quartered in a dormitory so new that their oc cupancy was delayed for paint-drying see nagle spring houseparty dates in the residence halls of their escorts was proposed at a prelimi nary residence halls houseparty planning committee meeting last thursday this suggestion and others de signed to create a more informal and unified atmosphere among the residence halls for house party will be presented to the residence halls council in the near future for its considera tion under this revision of houseparty arrangements no dormitory would be given over entirely to dates as dravo was for the fall houseparty a part of each of the six residence halls would be sealed off and this could easily be done explained philip b woodroofe director of residence halls married adult couples would be hired to chaperone the girls these couples would live in the respective dormitories it would be the task of each dormitory to make these couples part of the group and have them parti cipate in the various group ac tivities the committee expressed the hope that the attitude of the student and his
