afternoon the orange and black nine of princeton won its fourth consecutive victory of the present season when they defeated the lehigh nine by the rather large score of 15 to 5 in a hard-hitting and loosely-played game when the fray was over the score showed six errors for lehigh and half that number for the tiger nine while the number of hits exactly equals the score each side having the same number of hits as runs john ny lees the brown and white pitching ace started on the mound for lehigh and was opposed by bob carney the tall southpaw former ly of lafayette and considered the foremost hurler on the princeton staff the former started in mid season form but had two bad in nings the third and sixth in which the tiger batsmwn scored eleven runs four in the former and seven in the latter when he retired in fa vor of dubois who held down the opponents for the remainder of the game carney succeeded in hold ing the lehigh batsmen in check until the seventh inning when he had trouble in locating the plate and was nicked for three solid hits which caused his retirement and was succeeded by charlie caldwell last year's freshman star up until the last half of the third only one man reached first and the game had the earmarks of a pitch ing duel in this inning however lees faltered as did his support and the tiger batsmen succeeded in pushing four runs over the plate cooper the first man up reached first when he was hit by a pitched ball berg was safe at first but cooper was forced out at second carney the heavy hitting pitcher got his first single advancing berg to third and taking third on hess's throw to bessemer gorman then laid down a perfect bunt and berg and carney scored when harwi threw wild to first the next two seniors lead off with banquet on thursday to the utter astonishment of the student body and to the chagrin of the team itself the visiting maryland team sadly defeated the brown and white squad in the opening game at taylor field on saturday after noon in rolling up a count of 9 to 3 the southern exponents of the old indian game counted the biggest total on a lehigh lacrosse team in years coming here after a long season of practice including several games already played on the northern in vasion the visitors fairly rushed the brown and white off their feet and were far the better team in every department did maryland excel with probably its strongest asset in goal where sleasmani time and again thwarted the efforts of well direct ed shots physical condition such as only can be gained by diligent practice and apparent with lehigh teams a long about mid season was in a lairge degree responsible for the ov erwhelming victory of the visitors lehigh started both sessions with plenty of snap and determination but was unable to carry out the pace maryland on the other hand merely bided its time until after le high had shot its bolt and then counted its scores in rapid succes sion after there was little or no chance of overcoming the visitors lead coach o'neill took advantage of the opportunity to try other mem bers of his big squad in actual hos tilities and many substitutions were made in the closing minutes at one time there were four of last sea son's grid warriors included in the lehigh line-up three of whom were playing the game for the first time in their caireer captain-elect bill springsteen of the football team was sent into the fracas for darsie ; poss greer the plunging full back relieved gruhn ; and art cu sick captain of the lehigh football team last season replaced cy morgan a halfback who started the game continued on page three the teamwork of the visitors and accurate passing was too much for the lehigh defense to contend with junior class to hold banquet next week the annual banquet of the class of 24 will be held next wednesday evening april 18th at the burton restaurant at 6:30 o'clock the dinner will cost 2.50 per plate and the affair gives promise of pretty girls should not fail to see her kniight out which will be played at the kurtz theatre one night only monday april 16th a light plot catchy musical num bers and a number of special fea tures are all blended in this college production this show is being put on by the lehigh mustard and cheese club and marks their annual spring per formance the very best talent in the university has been hard at work since early in the fall to make her knight out rank among the best in college dramatics and from all indications they will have at tained their goal oro the night of the 16th the book and lyrics have been written by the undergraduates and as far as possible the show is unique in the sense that each part has been made especially to fit the ability of each individual in the cast the musical numbers have been given especial attention and they are all songs that are bound to make a hit billy lyiwi a professional coach has been working with the cast for the past three weeks and everything is about ready for the initial performance the costumes which have been arranged in new york have arrived so that every thing is in readiness for the curtain to be raised on the best show brown and white baseball team will travel to new york where they will oppose the fordham university nine in an effort to win their first victory of the season this will be the third game for lehigh and the seventh for ford i ham the latter having taken a train ing trip through the south where they won two games and lost four fordham defeated richmond col lege by the score of 10 to 5 and st john's academy by the one-sided score of 12 to 2 on the other hand the lost column for fordham shows defeats at the hand's of georgetown virginia st john's academy and the university of pennsylvania all these defeats were by large scores with the exception of the re verse by st john's which was 5 to 4 on the other hand the teams of georgetown and the university of pennsylvania are perhaps two of the best teams in collegiate ranks this year judging from their showing thus far and defeats by these teams do not mean that fordham cannot be considered dangerous fordham will have had the advantage of more games and more practice owing to their trip through the south but on the other hand the brown and white tossers are determined to show a decided improvement over their first two games it is not known as yet how the lehigh team will line up and the opponents will probably present the same line-up as appeared on franklin field a gainst peno last saturday it is likely that coach baldwin will start dubois on the mound for the brown and white but he has not decided definitely the probable line-up will be : — lchigh — kirchner ss ; hess if merrill rf harwi c ; rogec cf bessemer 3b
