dixieland in real crazy atmosphere hp calendar today 4 p.m — houseparty begins 10 p.m — houseparty dance at grace hall tommy and jimmy dorsey band the rhythmaires 1 a.m — rhc breakfast at lam berton hall tomorrow 2 p.m football — lehigh vs brown taylor stadium 7 p.m — fraternity and dorm parties sunday 11 a.m — chapel the rev r e fuessle chaplain 5 p.m — houseparty ends notice the next issue of the b&w will be published on friday nov 5 by dick sugarman a wide variety of party themes designed to suit the tastes of every i one are scheduled by lehigh's 30 fraternities for tomorrow night's houseparty programs alpha chi rho will have 25 broth ers and their dates to help celebrate r their honeymoon party at 223 w packer aye alpha sigma phi 514 delaware aye will have as their theme frost on the pumpkin they will have no band the house is sponsoring a hayride at midnight alpha tau omega will play host to a tau slumberland theme which will be attended by 22 broth ers and their dates this campus ' house will offer a display consisting of a bed and monogrammed ato bedspread r beta theta pi has engaged a dixieland band to help them present their coal miners party an ex pected 25 brothers will be escorting their dates to this campus house j with a total attendance expected to surpass any of those in recent years the annual fall houseparty will officially start its rugged but amorous grind at 4 p.m today if nothing unusual happens which would be very unusual the gala and colossal event will by royal decree draw to a belated climax sunday at 5 p.m when about 1000 lehigh students will be overcome by exhaustion mardi gras will open the big weekend tonight with music by the fabulous dorseys tommy and jimmy providing the main impetus upwards of 950 couples are expected to pass through the portals of grace hall in addition to the dorsey duo an up and coming philadelphia dixieland swing aggregation the rhythmaires will liven up the usually strict atmosphere of grace hall's top floor the dance under the sponsorship of the senior class will begin at 10 p.m and will continue until 2 there will be a warm java and cruller feast in lamberton hall after the dance this free breakfast is open to all students and in particular to those who want refreshment in the form of coffee it will be sponsored by the residence halls council decorations for the interior of grace hall will spread the mardi gras theme the lower floor will appear in the disguise of a grand ballroom even including eight floor-to-ceiling pillars and a huge chandelier in the midst of an array of white gathered drapes street scenes similar to those in new orleans will grace grace's upper level dancers will move in this festive atmosphere and will listen to the rhythmaires as they produce their tunes in the versatile jazz vein chaperones for the dance will include dr and mrs allen j barthold dean and mrs byron c hayes mr and mrs frank e myers prof and mrs everett a teal and mr and mrs james h wagner as a main feature of friday's dance program the houseparty queen will be selected candidates for the honor this year will come from se parate living groups one girl may be entered by each fraternity one from the town group and price hall and two from each of the residence halls tem pos with taylor the candidates must report to grace hall accom panied by their dates not later than 11:30 final choice of the queen will be made during the course of the eve ning's festivities in addition to the main dance there will be numerous parties in the residence halls and fraternities both before and after the dance the fra ternity functions will go on from 1 to 3 a.m the big event tomorrow afternoon will of course be the grid tussle between the big brown and the big brown that is the lehigh engi neers and the brown bruins after the game many and varied activities will take place in many and varied places the beethoven maennerchor will be open for those who like an old german atmosphere saturday morning can serve as a time of rest for those who need the relaxation however it is assumed that few students will take advantage of this opportunity evening carousing will begin saturday sometime after 8 p.m all fra ternities will throw open their doors and most of them will have special ————— ———————— ¦ programs in the course of the night frosh can visit the houses for the first time the town students may attend a square dance in grace hall sponsored by town council most of the residence halls will also provide assorted entertain ment for their men and guests for the most part these social af fairs will draw to a close the heavy part of the big weekend sunday will start with a special church service in packer memorial chapel the rev raymond e fues sle university chaplain will deliver the sermon the remainder of sunday is given to the individuals for whatever purpose they may have at exactly 5 p.m the lehigh smog should again settle over the quiet little campus from then on the theme is hit the sack thus will end the week end of weekends and everyone will revert to studying for hour quizzes chi phi will depict a skid row theme and feature a dixieland com bo at their campus house delta chi will create a beer gar den in which a combo band will provide entertainment for 19 broth ers and their guests delta phi's 15 members and their guests will cavort in dixieland time in a hallowe'en atmosphere delta sigma phi will have a sail or's ball with a dixieiand band for the 40 attending members and their dates delta tan delta will use a haunt ed house theme and a dixieland band to do all the honors for 30 members and dates delta upsilon is plotting a hon eymoon weekend with all the wed ding decorations for 25 brothers and their dates kappa alpha will employ a dixie land band for their 27 members and their dates kappa sigma's 33 attending mem bers and their guests will be enter tained by a dixieland band in a new orleans setting with silhouettes of the band members providing the background phi delta theta will have a dry campus party for 27 members and their dates a dixieland band will be on hand it will be a parody on the bucknell incident phi gamma delta will have a barn party with all the decora tions a dixieland band will provide music for the 28 brothers and their guests phi s'gma kappa has acquired a four piece combo and dive decora tions for their hood party twenty five members and their dates are expected to attend pi kappa alpha will have every one in pajamas for their pajama game there will be a dixieland band and a variety
