the fabulous dorsey brothers jimmy and tommy will be the fea tured performers at this fall's houseparty which will be hed oct 29 theme of the weekend which will run from 4 p.m friday to 8 sunday night will be the mar di gras freshmen will be al lowed to visit the fraternities for the first time on saturday of hp attendance of students and their dates is estimated at 900 for the fri day night dance tickets are 5 if bought in advance and 5.50 if pur chased at the door the dorsey brothers are now re united for the third time in their colorful careers in 1922 their nov elty band played a number of spots around their home town of shenan doah pa in 1934 they formed another band featuring such music nota bles as bob crosby glenn mil ler who was then second trom bonist and ray mckinley the drummer . two years later however the band broke up and the brothers formed separate bands tommy has sold over 70 million records since then and jimmy has sold 40 mil lion they are currently recording lu to unroll red carpet for parents dr hubert m poteat professor of latin at wake forest college and past imperia potentate of the shrine of north america will deliver the commencement address at lehigh's 76th founder's day exercises sun day afternoon in packer chapel during the ceremonies presi dent martin d whitaker will confer 110 degrees fifty seniors will be granted baccalaureate diplomas 55 advanced students will receive masters degrees and five will be granted doctor of philosophy degrees a native of north carolina po teat was graduated from wake for est college in 1906 received his mas ter's degree two years later from the same institution and his doctor of philosophy degree in 1912 from co lumbia university during his un dergraduate days he served as presi dent of many campus organizations was a leading member of the col lege glee club and orchestra and made an enviable record in ath letics he has been a member of the fa culty of wake forest college since 1912 he is the author of eight books and numerous articles on education al classical masonic and shrine topics he is a past vice-president of the american classical league he is a member of the american philo logical association and of the bri tish classical association dr poteat is an accomplished rccitalist and a composer of note he has given more than 250 organ recitals throughout the south and has published several musical selections in cluding sudan temple march for band for 25 years he has been a mem ber of the executive commission of the masonic service association he is a member of the allied masonic degrees and of the grand college of rites of the united states he was elected imperial outer guard in 1941 and served as imperial poten tate of the shrine of north ameri ca from june 1950 to july 1951 scl has dozen top programs set for 54 55 six concerts and six prize-win ning foreign films will be presented in the 1954-55 student concerts lectures series » the initial show of the season scheduled for oct 15 will fea ture helen roberts and richard walker in a program of scenes from gilbert and sullivan shows other stage shows of the season will include performances by boris gregory and rod stong jessica tandy and hume cronyn famed stage and screen duo jerome hines well-known basso of the metropoli tan opera the national symphony orchestra directed by howard mitchell and andrew segovia ac claimed as the world's greatest guitarist the foreign films are the bi cycle thief time in the sun gigi torment and der apfel ist ab students are admitted free upon presentation of id cards season tickets are now on sale at the registrar's office and huff's mu sic store general admission is 5 reserved seats 7.50 eckhardt 57 polio victim in iron lung richard l eckhardt 57 has been placed in an iron lung at st luke's hospital where he is under treat ment for polio eckhardt who was admitted fri day is reported in fair condition doctors said he is suffering from acute anterior non-paralytic polio myelitis his parents mr and mrs lewis i eckhardt arlington n.j are here the student resides at 459 vine st the trustees further reduced this figue to 15,000 which will be divid ed among the student activities the majority of activities will have to operate on smaller bud gets than last year though a few will have larger funds this year the following table was released by sof showing last year's appro priations this year's requests scf's recommendations to the trustees and the amounts allotted in the final allocations student organizations will receive 15,000 from the university for the fiscal year 1954-55 this amount is roughly 71 per cent of the amount requested by the various student ac tivities last february the student club finance committee re ceived a total of 21,162 in re quests from the activities they put the requests through a screening process and lowered the figure to 18,800 and sent this in the form of a recommendation to the university trustees dorms plan for 6 more socials residence halls council's social season began saturday with a din ner at lamberton hall and the dink hop as well as dates for the dela ware game for the freshmen the day's social events were the first in a series of six func tions planned this year last year houseparty was the only social activity allowed to resi dence halls students the council through spencer schantz its social secretary and cyanide has arranged a dinner and dance at wilson college for 125 freshmen and 25 upperclassmen this saturday section dinners followed by the charity ball will be part of parents weekend oct 16 parties will be held in richards and drinker houses from 6:30 to 9 p.m lafayette weekend will also be highlighted by section din see dorms page 4 parents of lehigh students will be feted saturday oct 16 as the uni versity rolls out the welcome mat for its second annual parents day program this year it will be held in conjunction with the lehigh gettysburg football game although including many of the activities of last year's in augural program the university has also arranged many special features to supplement the par ents visit to lehigh through arrangement with the student concerts-lectures commit tee parents have been invited to the gilbert and sullivan program scheduled for friday oct 15 pri marily intended to entertain visitors who arrive early the program is offered equally to local parents the saturday program is to open officially with a buffet luncheon at 11:30 a.m two art exhibitions are also being presented in the art gal lery and the alumni building for the benefit of saturday morning ar rivals faculty members and their wives will be hosts and host esses for the luncheon to be of fered on the lower floor of grace hall
