64 graduated this february 5 with honors forty-seven living groups have turned in their pledge cards bringing the total number of pledges to 480 included in the 14 living groups which have not yet turned in their pledge cards are alpha chi rho delta upsi lon phi sigma kappa theta kappa phi and drinker i and 2-b dravo a-l price hall richards 4-a and 4-b and tempo i ii and iii faculty pledges have been coming in slowly with 20 al ready promising blood dona tions last year 673 pints were contributed to the blood for defense program this record made lehigh one of the best contributors to the drive last year pledge cards are still available and may be picked up in the arca dia office in drown hall march 17 and 13 are the days when blood will be given festival stubs ready mar 15 tickets for the 1954 spring music festival will be obtainable after march 15 in the festival office un der the south stands of grace hall prices for friday night will range from 1.50 to 1.95 with 1.75 seats available saturday night's prices will be 1.75 1.90 and 2.10 if the government amusement tax is imposed on tickets the price of the tickets will be raised the festival this year will be presented in grace hall on april 23 and 24 part i is devoted to music by the glee club and brass choir guest soloist pianist william fairlamb will be featured in the second por tion the third portion will tell the life story of billy sheridan lehigh's former wrestling coach five freshmen are shown in the arcadia room last friday after picking up their fraternity bids most made their decisions quickly others sat around thinking and checking fraternity averages for the fall semester a total of 516 bids were given out by the 30 greek letter fraternities to freshmen and several sophomores last friday afternoon only 309 were accepted following is a list of the men pledging the respective fraterni ties as of sunday afternoon alpha chi rho john prokap james brodie william strobl law rence nuesslein rolf kreitz gerald murry v jennings and jo seph p zangara were graduated with honors bachelor of arts degrees were awarded henry j battaglia jr robert j bauman paul m beach jr jennings sylvain lourie william h meiggs pau erstein robert p platzer and gilbert h priess bachelor of science in business administration to samuel w brooks jr john a cable douglas b clau sen alan w day harold r fritz william c hitchings james b kingham bedford h lydon jr kenneth h mcewan john t rus sell gerald b unger and wilmer l youmans bachelor of science in chemical engineering to peter j accordino fitzgerald john a band's showing lacking polish in 2nd concert by dick wallis the lehigh brown and white band in its second concert of the 1953-54 season performed with less polish than is to be expected from a group which has been in rehearsal for three months probably the fact that a sparse audience of less than 400 persons attended the concert was one of the reasons for the band's not playing at its usual peak very few students were among the audience at broughal junior high school auditorium sunday afternoon the band made several obvious and disturbing mistakes on numbers which they have been playing since see band page 6 sweeping competitors with four wins in last friday's debate the de bating team set a record for this year entertaining teams from rut gers and temple in the first triangu lar debate that the club has held on campus in several years the ques tion debated was whether or not the united states should establish a policy of free trade two rounds were held the first at 4:30 and the second at 7:30 with dinner in lamberton hall at 6 rutgers won two and lost two arri temple failed to win any losing all four to the see debate page 6 the annual military ball featuring the music of lester lanin's orches tra and the intricate drill maneuvers see ball page 6 a leadership program which it is hoped will be jointly sponsored by the junior class and arcadia will be offered to all interested and qualified freshmen and sophomores during the spring semester designed to alleviate the need for leadership training by teaching the students about the qualities attributes and problems of a leader the program will consist of two parts lectures by qualified professors at lehigh and small group discussions to put to use the principles discussed originally a junior class project the leadership program was started this past semester with a member ship of about 25 sophomores and juniors with the latter predominat ing the members were selected by a committee of charlie eisenfelder 55 dave schaub 55 and ralph hamilton 55 feeling that there are many po tential but inactive leaders at le high who could relieve the pressure on the present student leaders ac cepting the responsibility of student activities it was decided to train a nucfeus of student leaders who would conduct group discussions with the new members in the spring addressing the group last semes ter on such topics as the personal characteristics of a leader parlia mentary procedure and public ; speaking were professor frank myers dean loyal bewley dean j d leith university librarian james d mack representation and publicity and school spirit form the core of the platforms of the 33 candidates running in the arcadia elections which will be held friday saturday and monday polls located in
