rho eta lehigh's only local fraternity will cease to exist on nov 30 at this time delta chi will formally present a charter to the members of rho eta at an installation banquet at the hotel bethle hem delta chi will become the 30th national fraternity at lehigh attending the dinner will be representatives of the university na tional officers of delta chi ifc representatives members pledges and alumni of rho eta and representatives of other chapters of delta chi , and delta chi alumni the delta chi chapter at perm state will be the installation team it has not yet been decided who the speakers will be rho eta will become delta chi's 45th chap ter many of the former members of rho eta have already been initiat ed into delta chi chapters at cor nell perm state and union have conducted the ceremonies before the installation dinner everyone will have been initiated members of rho eta and alumni who are initiated into delta chi before the installation will be come charter members of the chap ter rho eta was established in march 1950 several of the distinguished alumni of delta chi are benjamin harrison president of the united states william j bryan secretary of state and robert todd lincoln son of abraham lincoln delta chi was founded at cor nell university in 1890 it was the first social professional fraternity it was also the first to establish a national accounting system and the first fraternity to abolish hell week proposals and concrete sugges tions toward improving group re lationships and fostering greater spirit at lehigh highlighted omi cron delta kappa's initiation ban quet held at walp's in allentown wednesday evening the senior class honor-leadership society's banquet marked the kickoff for discussions to be conducted throughout the remainder of the year in discussing the possibility of better relations throughout the faculty-student-administration cir cle newly initiated faculty mem ber prof james hartman mecha nical engineering head warned against any compulsory artificial ly supported program to attempt to foster better relations joe morgenstern 53 an other intiate discussing the same problem from the student point of view threw the ball handling to the faculty deploring the night school attitude adopted by many students morgenstern called upon the faculty to take the initiative in bringing about closer ties with stu dents one of the points in morgen stern's discussion was that of more faculyt members making them selves available to students as chaperones he suggested more faculty members making them and white and wlrn and asked that the faculty dine occasionally with the students in lamfoerton's cafeteria rather than in the seclu sion of the faculty dining room he suggested more active fraternity movement in director of music had to say during an interview in grace hall tuesday night the comical good-natured musician was rehearsing the all college orchestra members of which come from moravian col lege for men moravian women's seminary lehigh cedar crest and muhlenberg in commenting on the new orga nization boudreau said we think that we have a good thing here and we just hope that we can get more cooperation — especially from lehigh we have only one violinist from lehigh the folks are helping however including prof beer and his wife who are playing with us boudreau has quite a time re hearsing his musicians at the see boudreau page 4 n j absentee voting bill is proposed petitions for an absentee voting bill in new jersey were distributed among students from that state on the campus wednesday by bill ladew 53 at present new jersey only provides for absentee voting by servicemen ladew described interest in the project as encouraging and said that a number of students had approached him about it he has called a meeting of students from new jersey who are interested in organizing a campaign for absentee voting legislation on wednesday at 4:15 p.m in the arcadia room drown hall addressed to the new jersey state legislature the petitions read we the undersigned students of lehigh university from new jer sey in view of the financial and other difficulties of traveling home to vote and in recognition of the the 50 students from new jersey extreme difficulties of voting for attending school in michigan who submitted a resolution to you on this matter do hereby petition that the privilege of absentee bal loting be extended to those who for reasons of business college at tendance etc are not able to be in new jersey on election day seniors return epitome proofs the newest thing at lehigh mo vies in lamberton hall seems to be meeting with considerable suc cess according to ken stahl and bruce steinhoff who are running the series for idc despite difficul ties with the sound system at one of the saturday evening perform ances which will be remedied in the future a total of 165 persons took advantage of the three shows twenty-five cents was asked of everyone attending a donation to defray cost of equipment and films because of the sound trouble an offer was made to refund the money of anyone who asked how ever no refunds were requested the treasure of the sierra ma dre winner of three academy awards starring humphrey bo gart will be presented this week end two shows on saturday at 7:15 and 9:45 p.m and one on sun day at 7:30 p.m are scheduled idc is using its own loud speak ers however the wlrn sound system which is used during meals in lamberton is at the disposal of idc if more volume is desired on the week of nov 15-16 broken needs were satisfied according to bill westerman 53 student mana ger of the band westerman said the band's de cision was made after it was not informed that the upper athletic field was not being used last thursday he said there was an understanding with the athletic department that the band would be in formed when the field was free then last friday westermani said the lower field lights needed
