ment of a central buying agency for fraternities thereby eliminat ing the middle man in all sales and reducing the work of fraternity stewards presented to the interfrater nity council on oct 6 the coopera tive idea was discussed in the houses and twenty house presi dents gave the movement a vote of confidence at ifc's meeting last monday should the co-op be put into operation all fraternities would call their orders for food furniture coal etc into a central agency which would in turn call the merchant selling the respective item and place the order for the house essentially the plan calls for a pooling of the purchasing power of the fraternities to take advan tage of their buying power while the houses need not go into the plan on all commodities the more see ifc page 8 arcadia gave the dorm parking problem a final boot wednesday night after kicking it around for more than a year the group unanimously ac cepted the parking committee's report which recommended estab lishment of restricted parking areas in dorm parking lots for up perclassmen only freshmen would only be permitted to park in un reserved spaces upperclass car owners who want space in a restricted area would be charged four dollars per year up perclass car owners who don't want reserved space and freshmen would pay two dollars per year the fund collected would be used for improvement of the parking lots the proposal now goes to the university which must make the final decision arcadia met informally as the parking committee immediately before the regular meeting in order to reach general agreement on the question before the report was pre sented rushing violator punished janice reed centenary fresh man who was chosen fall house party queen during the dance at grace hall she has previously been chosen miss new haven at a beauty contest held there the queen received a silver lov ing cup at her coronation and a bouquet of flowers at the football game on saturday gunfighter'to open lamberton flicks chest pledges due nov 5th let's get on the ball and get your campus chest pledges in on the fourth and nth of november is the request of wally butler head of campus chest pledge collections the deadline for the collec tion of the pledges is nov 5 and in order to prevent the expense of the chest committee's going out after the drive is over to collect reneged pledges everyone is urged to get his pledge in now according to mark given pres ident of the campus chest drive a total of approximately 5,040 has been collected and pledged any additional donations would be ap preciated l to r seated arnesen heffner rauth brucker maccabe with the desire of preserving the long tradition of friendly rival ry between muhlenberg and lehigh the following resolution was renewed wednesday by the student council members of both in stitutions the respective student governments agree to accept the respon sibility for a positive program on their own campuses to prevent rowdyism and vandalism on the opiwnent's campus responsibility for maintaining law and order for disciplining refractory students and for financial reparations rests squarely upon the student governments of the two institutions it has been agreed further that the minimum penalty for any one caught doing violence or felonous damage on either campus will be payment of damages and in the case of excess vandalism or crime recommendation by the respective student governments for severe disciplinary action the peace pact was signed by arcadia president john arensen and by muhlenberg student council president earl heflner a further agreement in the pact called for feature articles in each school's paper and an exchange of 200 copies of the brown and white with the muhlenberg weekly the copies are to be sent to the main centers of student housing in each institution to be dis tributed from there lasasso killed in korean action congdon tells which voters will get cuts a freshman was bitten this week . . . bitten severely by the new teeth in the fraternity regulations the judiciary committee of ifc has barred a freshman from being pledged or initiated by any lehigh fraternity until next sep tember because of his deliberate infraction of the rushing rules he was caught visiting two fraterni ties on the evening of the gettys burg game two weeks ago herb roemmele 53 vice-presi dent of ifc and chairman of the judiciary committee announced the committee's action at monday evening's ifc meeting the frosh roemmele said was spotted by an ifc investigating committee mem ber as he was being ousted from a fraternity after having had the see rushing page 3 in order that they may vote in the coming election students living away from home and eligible to vote will be granted leaves of ab sence if necessary up to two days dean wray h congdon reminded students congdon warned the voters j however that no blanket excuses will be issued for voting each one will be considered individually some students are too far away from home to make the trip and others have the privilege of absen tee voting which they should take advantage of he added missing classes up to two days was deemed justifiable by congdon also however no greater length of time will be allowed he also warned that students who will be granted leave should visit their in structors and arrange to make up work they will miss carl weinrich recital sunday carl weinrich eminent ameri can organist will appear in a recit al on the starkey memorial organ in packer chapel on sunday nov 2 at 4 p.m weinrich is known through out the united states as a great or ganist and has been heard by thousands through his recitals and his mgm recordings weinrich is organist at princeton university chapel he is famous for his interpreta tion of organ masters of the ba roque period his program on nov 2 will include compositions by members of the pre-bach era as well as modern selections a work see recital page 7 pionship in 47 and 48 then placed second in the eastern inter-colleg iates the next two years lasasso majored in business ad ministration and was a member of beta theta pi fraternity brown key honorary society and was list ed in whos who in american col leges and universities campus movies are here to morrow night at 7:30 the gun fighter begins a series of motion pictures to be shown in lamberton hall under the sponsorship of idc marking another giant stride in its drive to provide more dormitory social activities pictures selected from the list of recent top productions are scheduled for the next three weeks on a trial basis features and ad ditional short subjects will be shown at 7:30 and 9:30 saturday nights and 7 p.m sundays a 25-cent donation toward film rental and other projection ex pense will be asked the shows are open to all lehigh students how ever dates cannot be admitted treasure of sierra madre and broken arrow are scheduled for the next two weeks respectively good attendance at these trial shows will mean immediate sched uling of more pictures for the fol lowing weeks after the trial shows the student activities com mitte of arcadia headed by alvin lewis will decide if the movies are to become a permanent campus ac tivity this week's show the gun fighter will star gregory peck and helen prescott in addition there will be a bugs bunny car toon a faculty member will be present at the shows each week end dean leith will be attending tomorrow and sunday's perform ances george a lasasso 50 one of lehigh's all time star athletes was killed in action in korea oct 14 according to word received by his parents mr and mrs august la sasso bethlehem lasasso who had received the bronze star with v cluster for valor on july 25 had been partici pating in the white horse ridge campaign the bronze star was awarded for coolness and courage while on a night patrol in bringing his unit safely through enemy lines with a prisoner despite two communist ambushes he was a graduate of the rotc unit at lehigh and was called into the army in march 1951 in 1949 lasasso received the varsity l club trophy as the most outstanding athlete of the year at lehigh he palyed first string end on the football team and as a heavyweight wrestler received the lehigh home club wrestling medal in 1950 he won the middle atlantic as sociation aau heavyweight cham volume 64 — number 10
