"This shows that we were not lucky last year," Kelly Gutshall, head coach of Lehigh said. "It came down to the last putt so you know it was a dogfight." The Mountain Hawks used a strong team effort powered by sophomore Jack Kodesh, junior John Horutz and senior Phil Auerbach. Kodesh finished tied for second with a score of 219. "We always knew Jack had a great golf game, " Gutshall said. a=s? PATRIOT LEAGUE "In my eight years at Lehigh this is the best team I ever coached." Coach Kelly Gutshall on second league title Horutz and Auerbach finished tied for eighth place with a score of 225. All three received All-League recognition. Lehigh and Navy were tied at the end of the competition. Lehigh was declared the winner via the "fifth-man" rule which compares scores of the number five golfers in the final round. Mountain Hawk Kyle Smith's score of 77 defeated Mark Minukas's score of 82 to seal the victory. With the victory, Gutshall hopes to maintain the winning tradition for years to come. The win was Lehigh's first Patriot League victory, giving the Mountain Hawks a 1-2 record in league play this season. The loss dropped Bucknell to 5-5 with a 2-2 record in the Patriot League. Lehigh head coach Michelle Finegan said the emotional victory could be a defining point for the season. Michelle Finegan Carly Lynch "This was the best game we played this year," Finegan said. "We hope to use this win as a confidence builder for the season." Freshman Kristy McHale led the defensive charge for Lehigh. The Southampton, New Jersey product held Tina Jones, the fourth leading scorer in the Patriot League to one goal. Jodi Renner was one of Lehigh credit Joe Ryan players who came up big against Bucknell Jones' goal came at the 21:30 mark of the second half with an assist from Susan LeFevre. Mountain Hawk sophomore Katherine Hopping tied the game with six minutes remaining with an electrifying goal off an assist from senior Kathleen Byrne. After two scoreless overtimes, Lehigh's Katherine Hopping, Trisha Clark and Kristy McHale scored in the stroke-off outscoring Bucknell 3 to 1. Lehigh's Carly Lynch led the team with 15 saves in 100 minutes. "Carly really stepped up defensively after the first goal." Finegan said. Bison Maureen Breslin had 11 saves for Bucknell. For the game, the Mountain Hawks outshot the Bison 21 to 18.
