The Engineers before the seventh largest crowd in Stabler Arena history dominated Lafayette from start to finish in winning by the biggest margin since a 45 point win over Colgate in 1989. The Engineer defense, which has come on in the last few weeks, held Lafayette to a season-low point total, field goals made and field goal pet. In fact, over the last four games the Engineers have held opponents to 66 ppg. compared to 82 ppg. in the first 12 contests. As for the offense, it was again very steady and well balanced. Four different players scored in double figures including Rashawne Glenn who scored 21 points. Ivan Wilkins and Kem Widmer each scored 15 points and Jason Fichter scored 12 points and pulled down a career-high 16 rebounds. "This is the nicest win I've had since I've been here," Fichter said. "It's taken a while, but we finally are doing the right things and making the right decisions." In beating Lafayette for the ninth time in the last 11 meetings the Engineers were able to bounce back from a difficult four-point loss at first-place Jason Fichter led the Engineers with a career-high 16 rebounds to go along with 12 points. Photo by JOE RYAN. Bucknell earlier in the week. "I was sort of feeling sorry for myself after the Bucknell game," head coach Dave Duke said. "My stomach was in knots after it. I prepared for practice and we were going to do the basics, which we did, and the guys had great practices. They really picked me up." The Leopards trailed by eight points at half- time 34-26, but considering they shot only 28 percent in the first half they weren't feeling too badly. But any chance the Leopards thought they would have of a second half comeback were quickly diminished as Lehigh scored seven straight points in a 14-second span to take a 51-32 lead. First Kem Widmer hit a three-pointer to beat the 35-second clock. Lehigh then stole the ball at the other end and Glenn hit Jason Fichter for a layup. Fichter, was fouled. He missed the free throw, but Ivan Wilkins got the rebound and put it back in. "They play under control," said Lafayette guard Craig Kowadla in assessingthe Engineers. "They've got a lot of balance and they're real smart." After seeing the game, the big crowd and audience which watched the game locally on WFMZ- TV, probably agree. A TOUGH WEEK AHEAD Lehigh continues a stretch which sees it play 10 of 12 games away from Stabler. Wednesday night Lehigh is at Holy Cross and Saturday it's an afternoon game at Navy. Lehigh split both games last year against each opponent. Navy was picked second in the preseason polls, Holy Cross third. Lehigh honors wrestling National Champions Lehigh University honored its wrestling National Champions before the Rider match on Saturday.
