Colorful New England Show: Foliage, Gridders All Aglow QUARTERBACK MARTY HORN (left) shattered Kim McQuilken's Lehigh record for career touchdown passes last week, throwing three to give him a total of 39. The recipient of those three TD's, split end Rennie Benn (right), ranks second in the nation in Division I-AA with 10 six-point catches this season. Marian finished No. 8 (30:56.7) and Kehoe No. 25 (31:44.4) in the men's 10- kilometer collegiate event, a category which attracted many of the East's top squads. The women's team, in its first varsity season, was led by senior co-captains Linda Head (Madison, N.J.) and Beth Edwards (Bethel Park, Pa.). Although the women finished well down in their five-kilometer varsity race, they have shown marked improvement since their first meet, according to Head Coach Nancy Hobbs. The women's tennis team, with just one match remaining before the ECC championships at Bucknell, have a record of 9- 1, following a 6-3 victory at Colgate. Sophomore Beth Dale (Phoenix, Md.) has a dual- match mark of 9-1 at No. 1 singles, while junior Kris Yuracko (Scarsdale, N.Y.) is 8-2 at No. 2. Lehigh's fourth win in four games against Northeastern came before 4,530 on a perfectly golden afternoon at Nil's Parsons Field. Shuttle co-pilot, junior split end Rennie Benn (Short Hills, N.J.), caught 10 passes, five in the final stanza, including the two touchdowns. Benn had his best day of the campaign, gaining 158 yards and, for the second week in a row, scoring three times. Lehigh dominated play in the first half to the tune of 17 first downs to just two for Northeastern. The Engineers ran twice as many plays, 54-25, and out- gained the Hounds by 216-73. But as the Blue Hens learned the previous week, domination of the statistics does not necessarily a victory insure. The Engineers led at the midpoint by just 13-7. Lehigh opened the scoring on its second possession, with junior tailback Peter Schreck (West Lawn, Pa.) pounding over from the four to complete one of the Engineers' best sustained drives of the campaign, a 15-play, 86-yard march. Schreck carried six times for 21 yards, including key first downs on third-and-three at the Lehigh 27 and third-and-one at NU's 14. Horn was 6-for-6 passing, hitting Schreck and senior wingback Eric Hunsberger (Sch- wenksville, Pa.) twice each, and Benn and senior fullback Doug Ertz (West Lawn, Pa.) once. The count went to 13-0 on the next Engineer possession, as Horn found Benn for a 9-yard touchdown with 12:25 left in the half. Passes to Benn of 27 and 14 yards converted crucial third- and-long situations to keep alive the 14-play, 67-yard march. The touchdown pass was the 37th of Horn's career, tying him with Kim McQuilken '74 as Lehigh's all-time leader in that category. Northeastern owed its defense a debt for sending the Huskies into the locker room with their heads up, just six points down, instead of 13 down and feeling out of it. With the ball at the Lehigh 26 and freshman Steve Banco (West Lawn, Pa.) set to punt at the 11, NU's Lonnie Hooker blazed in from the right to block the kick, and Roy McClain gobbled up the ball and ran it into the end zone. The NU defense gave up 216 yards to the Engineers in the first half; but it also gained nearly as much on the punt block as the Husky offense did in the half.
