El WAs At Navy The 80th annual Eastern Intercollegiate Wrestling Association championship tournament next Feb. 24-25, originally scheduled for Lehigh, has been moved to the Naval Academy at Annapolis, Md. Lehigh hosted the tourney three times recently, in 1980, 1982 and 1983. Raiders, After Trailing 28-17, Capitalize On Late Turnovers Despite a record-setting performance by split end Rennie Benn, of Short Hills, NJ, Lehigh's football team dropped a high-scoring battle at Colgate last Saturday, 47-28, with the Raiders coming from behind in the fourth quarter. The Engineers, overcoming 10-0 and 17-7 deficits on the passing and catching of quarterback Marty Horn, also of Short Hills, and Benn, held a 28-17 lead in the third period. Benn had 14 receptions during the game to top a Lehigh school mark of 13 set by tight end Rich Miller in 1966 against Rutgers. Eleven of his grabs came in the first half and after the intermission he was used chiefly as a decoy. His 14 catches accounted for 199 yards, including a seven- yard scoring reception, and three of them set up Lehigh's other three TDs. The Engineers, despite this aerial outburst and the hard running of fullback Doug Ertz of West Lawn, PA, who plunged for three scores, couldn't hold off the Raiders in the latter stages of the contest when offensive mistakes quickly turned things around. First punter Mike O'Hagan of Hawthorne, NJ, touched a knee to the ground scooping up a bouncing pass from center. He got off his punt but officials ruled the play dead at the Lehigh 15. Colgate kicked off, blocked a punt and regained possession on the 1-yard line, scoring quickly to move ahead 34-28. Lehigh's stunning aerial attack in the middle periods, when the Engineers came to life after the Raiders had jumped ahead, found Horn firing the ball repeatedly to Benn, tight end Jeff Hunt of Nazareth, PA, or tailback Peter Schreck of West Lawn, PA. Once the Engineers got close the job was turned over to Ertz and the 207- pound fullback smashed across the goal line three times following an earlier Horn to Benn scoring toss of seven yards. The game eventually looked like a blowout in the newspaper result columns, 47-28, but it was far from that. Lehigh led 26-18 in first downs, 325-254 in yards passing, 438-402 in total yards and 35:56 to 24:04 in time of possession. Colgate held a slight edge in yards rushing, 148-113. Lehigh, a 38-10 winner over Northeastern in its opener, is at Navy Saturday. Colgate, a 15-13 victor over Army before meeting the Engineers, plays at Cornell. Weekly Awards Split end Rennie Benn and defensive tackle Wayne Kasbar were winners of Lehigh coaching staff weekly football awards following last Saturday's loss at Colgate. No special teams selection was made. Travel Problems Alumni and guests coming to events on campus, including football games, are advised to allow for extra time if arriving from the East on Rt. 22.
