Most Wins Iver For LU Squads Thirteen of Lehigh's 20 varsity athletic squads topped the .500 mark in 1975-76 competition as the Engineers piled up an all- time high of 172 victories. They lost 106 events and tied three. This was an improvement over 1974-75 action when the totals read 148-105-6. Three undefeated squads headed the list including women's field hockey (10-0), women's tennis (8-0) and track and field (6-0). Rifle (16-1) and women's lacrosse 7-1) narrowly missed perfect campaigns. Six women's varsity teams, five of them winning units, accumulated 40 triumphs against only 12 defeats. New Awards JOHN COLES Coles Takes EIGA Title John Coles, co-captain of Lehigh's golf team, took individual honors in the Eastern Intercollegiate Golf Assn. tournament May 8-9 at Princeton with a 75-73—148. The new eastern intercollegiate golf champion will compete in the NCAA tournament June 9-12 at Albuquerque, N.M. Lehigh finished second in the team totals at Princeton only three strokes behind winning Temple. Hotline The Lehigh Hotline, a recorded sports scores and news telephone service, has been terminated for the 1975-76 academic year. It will resume Monday, Sept. 6, five days before the football season opener against Kutztown State. Highlight Ceremonies Student Recognition Day ceremonies, May 10, found Lori Collmann, Bob Liptak, Jim O'Donnell, Paul Barnes, Bill Griffin, Nancy Barrett, Joe Carroll and the women's basketball team attracting the most attention during the presenting of athletic awards. Collmann was the only triple winner during the flagpole portion of the day. She accepted trophies as the most outstanding member of women's lacrosse and field hockey teams, respectively, and won the Mary O. Hurley award as the woman athlete best exemplifying the spirit of sportsmanship at Lehigh. The new A.C. Zettlemoyer Triple-A Trophy, for academic- athletic achievement, went to women's basketball as the squad with the highest overall academic average (3.3). The new John Steckbeck Trophy, established by Robert Kaufman '68 of Oakland, Calif., went to Barrett as the most outstanding woman athlete of the freshman class. Griffin won the Nolan Award as the most outstanding male athlete in the freshman class. Carroll took the ECAC medal for scholarship and athletic prowess. Liptak won the Bosey Reiter senior leadership trophy. Richard Boig was recipient of the 1976 University Service Award. SRD award winners: GENERAL J. Daniel Nolan Trophy to the most out- standing freshman male athlete: Won by Bill Griffin of Scotch Plains, N.Y. (Varsity basketball regular).
