Cagers (4-3) Await Tournament Quintet In Roanoke Invitational Lehigh's basketball team will take a winning record into the Roanoke Valley Kiwanis Invitational Tournament scheduled for Dec. 29-30 at the Civic Center in Roanoke, Va. Last week the revitalized Engineers split a pair of decisions, dropping a 70-67 overtime heartbreaker at Colgate before winning at Elizabethtown College, 66-57. Coach Brian Hill's squad has a 4-and-3 mark. The Engineers make their next start in the first round of the Roanoke Tournament Monday, Dec. 29, at 7 p.m. against Rider. In the other opening contest Roanoke College, the host school, entertains Susquehanna at 9 p.m. One night later, Dec. 30, the tourney concludes with a consolation contest at 7 p.m., between Monday's losers, and a title game at 9 p.m. Ken Clifford, a sophomore guard from Fanwood, N.J., was the week's scoring leader with 14 points at Colgate and 21 at Elizabethtown for a total of 35. Billy Griffin, a freshman guard from Scotch Plains, N.J., followed with 29 points and Ray Green a sophomore forward from Washington, D.C, had 24. Last season's scoring leaders, forward Charley Brown of Morristown, N.J., and forward Bill Milligan of Ramsey, N.J., had 18 and 14, respectively. Jumpers by Griffin and Brown broke a 22-22 stalemate at E-town as the Engineers moved ahead to stay. Griffin and Clifford controlled midcourt play for the Lehigh quintet while Brown turned in a strong inside game. The victory evened the Engineers' season record at 1-1 following an earlier loss at Temple, 58-55. Lambert Award Lehigh footballers were honored in New York City Dec. 11 at the annual Lambert awards luncheon, accepting their fourth Lambert Cup emblematic of eastern Div. II gridiron supremacy. The Engineers enjoyed a 9-2 season and climaxed their efforts by climbing into first place in the Lambert Cup voting late in the schedule. Coach Fred Dunlap and co-captains Joe Sterrett and Jerry Mullane were on hand to accept the award from Victor Lambert, of the Lambert Bros, jewelry house. Penn State was feted as the Div. I recipient of the Lambert Trophy and Ithaca College accepted the Div. Ill Lambert Bow. Presentation took place at the Hotel Roosevelt and a large delegation of Lehigh alumni and friends, totaling 44 persons, was on hand. Lehigh also won this award in 1957, 1961 and 1973. On the dias, along with Dunlap, Sterrett and Mullane, were Bill Leckonby, Lehigh's director of athletics, and Morgan Cramer, a trustee and chairman of the trustees' visiting committee on athletics at the University. Lieberman, Toth-Fejel Top Matmen Lightweight Tihamer Toth- Fejel, middleweight^ Glenn Willard and Jeff Duke, and 190- pounder Mike Lieberman are Lehigh's undefeated wrestling leaders after the Engineers' first six meets of the 1975-76 campaign. The Engineers have a 5-1 team mark following action in last weekend's quadrangular tournament at Grace Hall. Lehigh knocked off Indiana State of Terre Haute, 20-12, and East Carolina, 26-13, before bowing to Oregon State in the final meet of the program, 18-16. In other duals during the tourney Oregon State took Indiana State, 23-15, and East Carolina, 30-15, while East Carolina defeated Indiana State, 30-16. Toth-Fejel, a senior from Cupertino, Calif., and Lieberman, the 177-pound NCAA champion from Allentown, Pa., emerged with perfect 6-0 marks. Duke, a senior from Lancaster, Pa., replaced junior Glenn Willard of Yardley, Pa., for the quad at 158 after the latter injured a knee in earlier wrestling at the Nassau Coliseum, and was very impressive winning three times in three appearances. Both of them now have 3-0 seasonal records. Two Lehigh grapplers, 167- pounder Nils Deacon of Howell, N. J., and heavyweight Don McCorkel of Hershey, Pa., fell from undefeated ranks during the quad. Deacon, after winning big on Friday over Dee Campbell of Indiana State, 20-6, bowed twice Saturday. He lost to Phil Mueller of East Carolina, 11-7, and Mark Evenhus of Oregon State, 8-6. McCorkel, after whipping undefeated Baxter Brown of Indiana State, 8-2, and pinning D. T. Joyner of East Carolina in 1:20, ran into NCAA champ Larry (Continued on Page 2) Wrestling TV WLVT-TV, Channel 39 of Bethlehem, has set times and dates for the area showings of two more wrestling meets.
