He dropped an 8-5 decision to Larry Bielenburg of Oregon State, rated the country's No. l collegiate heavy, as the West gained an 18-14 triumph. Thad Turner, Lehigh served as coach of the East team. DeStito was the fourth Lehigh star chosen to participate in this annual meet. Earlier Engineer entries were lightweights Mike Caruso, Rich Meyer and Mike Frick. He wrestled a strong bout against Bielenburg, rallying after being taken down and victimized with a near-fall to trail 4-0. Late in the match, with his deficit sliced to 6-5, he tried unsuccessfully for a takedown. Bielenburg countered and added the TD to his total. Seventeen victories in 20 bouts were racked up by Lehigh's wrestlers last week as the Engineers trounced Rutgers, 30- 3, and Army, 29-8, to extend their winning streak through 10 meets. Coach Thad Turner's matmen (14-2-1) are ranked No. 1 in the East and No. 6 nationally, the strongest showing for a Lehigh team since 1967. Double winners during the week were Marty Lynn, Tihamer Toth-Fejel of Cupertino, Calif., Pat Sculley, Mark Lieberman, Mike Lieberman and Don McCorkel of Hershey, Pa. The only stunner of the 20 bouts came at Army in the 134-pound clash as Mike Frick, of Hamburg, N.J., was pinned by Jack Schoonover of the Cadets in 2:22 with a cradle. It was Frick's first loss after 12 victories. Earlier Frick pounded Phil Steiner of Rutgers, 9-0. Single winners, in their only bouts, were Lance Leonhardt, Nils Deacon of Howell, N.J., Jeff Boyd of Westwood, N.J., and Terry DeStito of Enola, Pa., the only undefeated regular. DeStito dropped a decision in the annual East-West all-star meet Feb. 3, at Clarion State, but this doesn't count against his seasonal dual record. Along with Frick, the only Lehigh losers during the week were reserves Dave O'Brien of Alexandria, Va., and Glenn Grant of Maplewood, N.J. O'Brien subbed for Leonhardt, against Rutgers, and was beaten 13-6 by Gerry Nisivoccia in their 118-pound leadoff scrap. The Scarlet didn't win again during the program, losing to Lehigh for the 25th consecutive time. Some 1,900 fans watched the meet at Grace Hall. Frick's startling loss to Penn St. Meet To Be Telecast The Lehigh-Penn State wrestling meet, at University Park, will be shown one day later, Sunday, Feb. 16, over the following educational TV outlets: WLVT, Ch. 39, of Bethlehem, WITF, Ch. 33, of Hershey, WPSX, Ch. 2, University Park. The telecast will be originated by WPSX and the showings on all three state outlets will be at 4 p.m. There will be NO "live" television. Schoonover, and a 10-8 loss handed to Grant by Rick McPhee at 177, were the only setbacks at Army. Mike Lieberman, winning 3-0 over highly-rated Steve Bonsall of Rutgers and 9-3 over Fritz Burnett of Army, became the team's biggest winner with a 15-2 seasonal record. He's the only member of the team to wrestle in each meet and he has a shot at the Engineer one- season mark of most dual meet triumphs (17) established just last year by NCAA champion Tom Sculley, Frick and DeStito. He needs wins in the last three dual tests against Penn State, Columbia and Cornell.
