I Awards Dinner Scheduled Mky 7 Skeen Spurs Stickers To Winning Season SteveSkeen, of Baltimore, Md., went on a scoring spree as Lehigh lacrossemen scored five victories in six starts since the last issue of The Mountaineer to bring their seasonal mark to 6-2 (4-2 in the Middle Atlantic Conference). Coach Tom Gilburg's stickers began this surge with a 7-6 edge over Gettysburg, bowed 6-4 to Bucknell and then bowled over West Chester, 13-4, Drexel, 9-5 Swarthmore, 7-1, and Western Maryland, 11-4. With only two contests remaining they have clinched a winning season. Skeen pumped home 17 goals and added two assists for 22 points in the six-game outburst as the Engineers totaled 51 goals for an 8.5 per game average. Johnny Bassani of Garden City, N.Y., contributed 19 points on eight markers and 11 assists. Kevin Stelljes of Fayetteville, N.Y., netted eight goals and had eight assists for 16 points. Paul Barnes, a freshman from Gladwyne, Pa., slammed in five goals as the Engineers whipped Western Maryland. Skeen netted four goals in the victory over Gettysburg, including the winner with less than three minutes remaining. The affair will begin at 6:30 p.m. with John Steck- beck, assistant director of physical education, presiding as toastmaster. The dinner will complete Flagpole Day activities on the Lehigh campus. V. Rodger Digilio, executive director of the National Advisory Council for Drug Abuse Prevention, Washington, D.C., will be the principal speaker at the banquet. Digilio graduated from Lehigh with highest honors in 1965 and was a Rhodes Scholar. Ray Snyder, Class of 1931 and chairman of the Lehigh Alumni Assn. Student Relations Committee, heads the banquet general committee. Tickets, priced at $5, will go on sale late this week at the athletic department offices in Taylor Gym, the student activities desk at the University Center, the Alumni Assn. offices in Alumni Memorial Building and from any member of the Lehigh Home Club board. Any tickets that remain will be on sale at the door May 7. Football, cross country and soccer squads were honored at a similar dinner last fall. 29-22 Record Lehigh varsity teams have a 29- 22 record this spring topped by the lacrossemen who have won six and dropped only two. Baseballers (13-10) Set Lehigh Record Bolstered by the longest winning streak in Lehigh baseball history, seven games, the Engineers take a 13-10 record into the waning part of the season. The string started with a 14-0 victory over Western Carolina on the last leg of a spring trip to Statesboro, Ga. Triumphs over Penn, 4-3, Drexel, 5-0 and 10-2, Bucknell, 5-2 and 10-1, and Rutgers, 5-3, followed. Coach Stan Schultz's nine will take another streak onto the field against Lafayette Friday (Apr. 27) at 3 p.m. The Engineers are undefeated in Taylor Stadium this year with an 8-0 record. Saturday (Apr 28) they play at Lafayette in a 2 p.m. contest. Temple broke the 7-game winning skein with a 7-2 verdict in Philadelphia. A doubleheader 'loss at Rider followed, 6-4 and 3-1, along with an 11-4 setback at West Chester before the Engineers got back to Taylor and outscored Muhlenberg, 8-5. Lehigh moved along to Gettysburg, received superb pitching from Bruce Ulissi and Paul Hartzell who gave up only one run in 15 innings, but couldn't get enough runs to do better than divide a twin bill. The Engineers won the opener 2-0 behind Ulissi and dropped the nightcap in an extra inning, the eighth, 1-0 as Hartzell was vic timized by a lack of batting support. Freshman Stan Sterner, pitching in relief of Joel Menzzopane, took care of his own run- making in a 5-4 victory over Scranton at home. He singled in the bottom of the ninth with the bases loaded and the score tied. He did a spectacular pitching job, getting out of a serious jam in the seventh frame as he took over, and striking out the side in the eighth and ninth innings. He did a spectacular pitching job, getting out of a serious jam in the seventh frame as he took over, and striking out the side in the eighth and ninth innings.
