Vol. 15 — No. 24 *■ ~ .•" MAY 22, 1973 BETHLEHEM, PA. 1st Combined Alumni Reunion, Commencement Weekend Near Frank Zawatski Big Winner During Student Recognition Festivities; Frick Honored Baseball star Frank Zawatski was the big winner at 1973 Student Recognition Day festivities, walking off with four awards. He took three of them at noontime Flagpole ceremonies and the fourth at the annual dinner in Windish Hall opposite Taylor Stadium. His banquet trophy was the ECAC award for scholarship and athletic prowess which he shared with swimming star Alan MacGregor. and White, was feted for accomplishments in this same category. John Steckbeck, assistant director of physical education, was toastmaster for the noontime and evening ceremonies. V. Ridger Digilio, who graduated from Lehigh in 1965 with highest honors and became a Rhodes Scholar, delivered the (Continued on Page 2) It was the first time that either a baseballer or a swimmer won this trophy. Mike Frick, EIWA wrestling champion and the first freshman ever voted Most Outstanding in an Eastern tournament, was winner of the Rev. Dan Nolan Trophy as Lehigh's top freshman athlete. Charles R. (Chuck) Loehr gained the University Service Award and Steve Glickstein won the Bosey Reiter Leadership Award. Loehr was honored for his service to the university as a campus leader. Glickstein, editor of The Brown FRANK ZAWATSKI Netmen Complete Winning Campaign With 6-5 Mark Lehigh's tennis team finished fast, with three victories in its last four starts, to complete a 6-5 season for the first winning campaign in four years. More Honors For Frank Frank Zawatski, one of the finest players in Lehigh baseball history, earned a berth on the 1973 District 2 NCAA all-star team as selected by a special committee. Zawatski, a senior from Bound Brook, N. J., who batted .333 with eight homers and six doubles, was the only Lehigh Valley collegian picked. Wash. Trophy Stays At Lehigh One-sided victories in track and tennis enabled Lehigh to whip Lafayette in the annual All - Sports Trophy race. The Engineers finished on top, 7-4. This trophy, established by the student governing bodies of the rival institutions in 1967, has gone to Lehigh six times. There was a tie one year and Lafayette still is looking for its first win. Only regularly-scheduled varsity dual events count in the standings. Lehigh took the 1972-73 series with triumphs in football, cross country, soccer, swimming, lacrosse, track and tennis. Lafayette could win only j twice in basketball along with single victories in golf and baseball. Fri. Baseballers Set Record With 16-Victory Season Joel Menzzopane's 5-0 shutout of Colgate gave Lehigh baseballers a record 16th victory as the Engineers ended their season two games over .500. It was the fifth winning season in seven years for coach Stan Schultz. Lehigh's 16 triumphs, most ever for an Engineer nine in one year, topped a mark of 15 established in 1916 when that team finished 15-5. Lehigh had a 16-14 record.
