Perri incorrectly penalized the Engineer sophomore for unsportsmanlike conduct when he threw his headgear toward the Lehigh bench after battling Mason to a 4-4 draw. The penalty, as Perri determined later, should have gone against the team. Surenian gets his draw and the meet score, instead of being 24-13 in Navy's favor, stands at 23-14. Bob Lustica Saves Victories Over Princeton, Army Grapplers Sophomore heavyweight wrestler Bob Lustica, of Lang- horne, Pa., turned in two more clutch performances last week as the Engineers downed Princeton, 17-16, and Army 18-14. Lustica came from far behind to earn a draw against Chuck Dressel of the Tigers and save that meet. He disposed of Dale Morgan at West Point, N.Y., to nail down another triumph. In the team's first test of the campaign, a 19-17 victory at Lock Haven State, his decision was the determining factor. The transfer from Bucks County Community College has been an invaluable addition to the squad. The triumphs gave Lehigh a 5-and-2 record in its first year under Coach Thad Turner and clinched a 19th straight winning season for the Engineers who haven't been below .500 since 1945. They finished 5-and-5 in 1952. Meets remain at Penn State Saturday, Feb. 20, and at home against Rutgers one week later, Feb. 27. Turner, his lineup depleted by injuries and illness, played musical chairs at Army and came up with all of the right moves. His key maneuver concerned undefeated 167-pounder Steve Shields whom he was determined to use against football star Ray Ritacco of the Cadets. Roy Alitz of Army, forced to put his man on the mat first as the host coach, held Ritacco out until the 190-pound class. When he did send him into action Shields was thrown in against him and the Lehigh ace wrapped up a decisive 4-1 victory. This gave the Engineers their first lead of the afternoon, 15-14, with Lustica on deck to see that it didn't slip away. Lustica took charge of Morgan with a four- point play in the opening period, a takedown and predicament, and moved to a 7-4 edge. It was an uphill battle all the way as Lehigh chopped down the Cadets with three regulars out of action. Randy Biggs, at 118, bumped his head in practice late in the week, was checked at St. Luke's Hospital, and expected to wrestle. He came up with headaches on the trip, however, and was held out as a precautionary measure. Greg Surenian, at 126, suited up but didn't compete because of an arm injury sustained in practice and aggravated in the Princeton dual. Scott Christie, at 177, also was in uniform but never got onto the mat. He was battling a virus bug. Hal Henkel replaced Biggs and was beaten by Larry Baltezore, 9-2. Manager Arnie Bramow took Surenian's place and went the route against Jim McArdle, although losing, 8-2. Greg Karabin substituted for Christie, at 167, and was defeated 9-3, by Mark Grunseth, Dave Icenhower, in action for the first time since December when a dislocated elbow sidelined him, returned at 14 2, only to be pinned by Bill James in 3;49. Six other Engineers took up the slack, each producing a key victory by decision as Lehigh overcame an 11-3 deficit to get the win. Dave Waters edged Mike McNulty 7-6 at 134 on the strength of an escape early in the final period. Herb Campbell whipped Ed Hetrick 8-2 at 150 and Rick Bacastow upset Bob Powers 4-2 at 158 with a strong performance. The team's hanging in there, working hard, and giving us strong efforts. Against Army our men realized we had lineup problems and had no margin for error.".. . .Thad Turner, wrestling.
