In an effort to give Lehigh's MBA program an edge over the competition, the Philip Rauch Center for Business Communications has developed its first multi-media computer tutorial, "The City of Successful Competitors." The program helps MBA students understand the essential elements of strategic management in an interactive environment by annalyzing real-life case studies. "Most MBA programs are not integrated," said Peter Saunders, director of the Rauch Center for Business Communications. "The courses that are taken are just parts in a series. What we're trying to do is to integrate the MBA curriculum." The software was developed by Saunders, who is also an associate professor of management; Sharon Kimmel, adjunct instructor in business; Kathy Trexler, assistant dean of the college of business and economics and director of the MBA program; Jim Maskulka, associate professor of marketing, and Theodore Schlie, associate professor of management. Eastern Light International Communications did the programming for the software, while Lucent Technologies and AT&T's Educational Foundation provided funding and input. The day-long event, which drew 200, focused on competitiveness and featured a panel of speakers including Lt. Governor Mark Schweiker, Prof. Roger Nagel and Harold Wagner, CEO of Air Products. Kinnier talked with Quayle on topics from elementary education to golf. "It was fantastic to hear Quayle's personal views over lunch, and the differing views of all the speakers on the panel." Global economy conference Lehigh is hosting a business-university workshop, "Creativity in the Global Economy: The Key to the Future," on Oct. 23-24. It will be presented in two parts, "Reinventing the Corporation for the 21st Century" and "Entrepreneurial Leadership in Business and Academia." All events will be held in Baker Hall and the Diamond Theater in the Zoellner Arts Center. The conference will feature speakers from Binney & Smith, Rodale Press, Lucent Technologies, Shell Oil and other companies, and from Florida State University, the University of British Columbia and other universities.
