Advani, associate dean of academic affairs for the College of Engineering at Ohio State University, has been named dean of the College of Engineering and Applied Science. He will assume the post in January (1992). Fazil Erdogan, interim dean of the College, will return to full-time faculty duties in the department of mechanical engineering and mechanics. Pense. "He will be a strong leader for the College and the University. I'm grateful to Fazil Erdogan for his willingness to serve as interim dean and his hard work managing the College while the search committee, chaired by Mikell Groover, professor of industrial engineering, completed its task." Advani, who also serves as professor and chairman of the department of engineering mechanics at Ohio State, will hold the faculty rank of full professor of mechanical engineering and mechanics at Lehigh. "He has a very keen understanding of the academic and financial problems facing engineering education, in addition to the experience and ability to deal with them effectively," said Pres. Peter Likins. "He has a genuine interest in the education of young people and will bring to this position his boundless energy, enthusiasm and wealth of ideas." Advani is very well known in the field of engineering mechanics. His specialty is geo-mechanics, which involves fracture mechanics and hydraulic fracturing in energy resource recovery systems. He earned his B.S. in mechanical engineering with first class honors from Bombay University in India, and his M.S. and Ph.D. from Stanford University. He began his career as a senior research engineer with Northrop Corp. before joining the faculty at West Virginia University in 1967. He moved to Ohio State in 1978. Advani has an outstanding research record and has been the principal investigator on more than 35 federally funded or corporate- sponsored research projects. He is the author or co-author of more than 100 articles in technical journals, and chapters in five books. This Saturday at Goodman Stadium Matt Millen and the Redskins meet the Jets Arrested... Above, Lehigh Valley native Matt Millen has been working out at the Taylor Gym Fitness Center the past three weeks in preparation for the Washington Redskins pre-season camp. Millen signed with the Redskins during the offseason and will be featured this weekend in the veteran's scrimmage beginning at 1 p.m. at Goodman Stadium.
