Engineers vs. Fordham Season begins with Fordham game. Story in South Mountaineer. Looking Back Postcards from the past show how Lehigh has changed. Hernandez named Loaned Executive for United Way Marie Hernandez Maria Hernandez, a secretary in the residential service office at Lehigh, was appointed by Pres. Peter Likins as a loaned campaign specialist for the United Ways of Lehigh, Northampton, and Warren Counties. Hernandez will be "loaned" to United Way from Sept. 4 to Nov. 4. Loaned employees come from businesses, educational institutions, labor and non-profit groups. These employees are skilled in management and public speaking. They work closely with United Way volunteer leadership and staff in organizing employee campaigns, making presentations to employee groups, organizing and managing accounts, and updating data. Before beginning, campaign specialists participate in a five-day training program in community problems and organization, United Way, sales techmques and public speaking. Working with United Way is not a new job for Hernandez, who first worked with the agency while employed as an administrative assistant at the Council of Spanish Speaking Organizations of the Lehigh Valley, Inc. She has also served as a board member of the United Way of Northampton County. She sees her new role with United Way as a challenge and is very enthusiastic about the job. Employed by Lehigh since 1983, Hernandez has been actively involved within the University as a member of the Presidential Commissin on Minorities, a member of the Child Care Advisory Board, a facilitator for diversity workshops, and a member of the Secretaries Christmas Party Planning Committee. Diana T. Murray Murray named new trustee Diana T. Murray, vice president for finance and chief financial officer of The Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York City, has been named to the Lehigh University Board of Trustees, effective this past July. In announcing the appointment, board chairman William C. Hittinger said, "The Lehigh board is extremely fortunate to have Diana Murray join its ranks. She brings to Lehigh a dynamic combination of strong financial judgement and analytical and planning talents." "Joining the Lehigh ^^^^^■^■■^■,^■,l,,■, board is both a privilege and a pleasure for me," said Murray. "It's a privilege to pursue with other distinguished trustees the goals of an institution such as Lehigh, and it's a pleasure to resume a professional relationship with (Lehigh President) Peter Likins with whom I worked closely at Columbia University when he was provost." Mrs. Murray has been chief financial officer at The Metropolitan Museum of Art since November 1987. From 1979 to 1987, she was vice president for budget and financial planning at Columbia University. Her previous financial planning positions include vice president, division of Planning and Development, New York City Health and Hospitals Corp.; assistant director, Emergency Financial Control Board, New York City; and health policy analyst, Office of the Secretary of the Department of Health, Education and Welfare, Washington, D.C. Mrs. Murray earned a bachelor's degree in political science at Cornell University, where she was elected a member of Phi Beta Kappa. At Columbia, she earned a master's degree in urban planning with honors and she was awarded a Mellon Grant Fellowship and a William Kinne Fellowship. In 1985, she was appointed to the New York State Hospital Review and Planning Council by Governor Mario Cuomo. She has served as a Finance chairman and treasurer of the New York City Community Family Planning Council and on the board of the Financial Women's Association.
